New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz and his pending contract have received significant media spotlight recently, but the team is “putting
a bigger emphasis” on signing fellow wide out Hakeem Nicks to a long-term deal,
according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
For all the talk there has been about the New York Giants signing
restricted free-agent wide receiver Victor Cruz to a long-term contract,
the team is putting a bigger emphasis at this time on signing wide receiver
Hakeem Nicks to a long-term deal, according to league sources.
Nicks has one year remaining on his current contract. The
25-year-old has been a dynamic playmaker for the Giants since they made him a
first-round draft pick. He was hampered by injuries last season, but he already
has two 1,000-plus receiving yards campaigns under his belt. Over four seasons
in the NFL, Nicks has 3,726 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns over 55 games.
Cruz is set to become a restricted free agent. The Giants
recently said that they’re hoping to re-sign Cruz to a long-term contract as well,
but there’s a limit to what they’re willing to spend.
