The Giants are normally at the top o the league in rushing offense and yards per attempt. But this is not a normal year. Through four games, the Giants rank 24th in the NFL in rushing averaging only 87.5 yards per game on the ground.
In the days of Earth, Wind and Fire the team boasted around five yards a carry for several seasons. Those days seem long gone now as the team is only gaining 3.3 yards per attempt in 2011.
Currently, there is no Wind or Fire Just Earth – as in down to earth. They have literally been nothing more than three yards and cloud of rubber pellets.
The reasons? There are a few. The Giants have a retooled offensive line that has not fired off the ball as they have in the past. They also have a rookie fullback and a green TE in their lineup. In addition, as good as their WR corp is, they don’t block very well sealing off the corners.
