The New York Giants secondary just can’t catch a break this season when it comes to injuries. It has been reported that safety Kenny Philipps will now miss 3-6 games with a sprained MCL that he suffered against the Eagles Sunday night. The report about the injury and status to Philipps was reported by Giants head coach Tom Coughlin in his Monday press conference. In that press conference, Coughlin announced that Phillips’ injury was in fact a sprained MCL and called his timetable “week to week,” although he is expected to be out between 3-6 weeks.

The Giants’ secondary has been plagued by injuries thus far this season. They were already without rookie Jayron Hosley for the last game, and starter Terrell Thomas is out for the year with his third ACL injury. Stevie Brown replaced Phillips on the field following his injury and made several plays; however, he also missed some plays that perhaps Phillips would have made if he had not been injured.

The only real silver lining about this injury may be just the simple timing of it. The timing is good for the fact that Philipps’ spot on the roster can be filled right away since safety Tyler Sash is expected to be back with the team after serving his four game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance enhancing drugs policy. With Sash returning, it gives the Giants defense a healthy body at a time that they desperately need one.

We here at Nysportsnut.com will continue to keep you updated on the injury to Philipps as well as updates on all of the injuries concerning the New York Giants as they come in. Judging by the injury count that has plagued the Giants so far this season, we will definitely be busy.

Giants Concerned About WR Hakeem Nicks’ Injured Knee
