Now that the NFL draft has come and gone, defensive end Osi Umenyiora, the New York Giants once again didn’t trade him.  It sounds as if they were open to trading Osi during the draft. “All options are open with respect to that,” general manager Jerry Reese said when asked if any deals had been discussed, per Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger.  “Our first choice with respect to Osi is he plays for the Giants and retires a Giant.” Reese claimed that the Giants made an offer to Umenyiora last year as well as this offseason and he turned down both offers. Reese still sounds like he’s willing to trade Osi for the right price.  I believe if the right offer is made for Umenyiora, the Giants will trade him, but it seems like teams aren’t willing to give up what the Giants want. “We’d still like to make it work,” Reese said. “But all of our options are always open.”

Reese says Giants have offered Umenyiora new deals

The New York Giants have offered two-time Pro Bowl defensive end Osi Umenyiora contract extensions each of the past two seasons. Speaking shortly after the NFL Draft ended on Saturday, Reese said the Super Bowl champions kept their options open entering the draft, including the option to sign Umenyiora. The 29-year-old defensive end has been unhappy with management. He claimed...

Osi Umenyiora says Giants making him look like a ‘greedy pig’ during negotiations

The situation between Osi Umenyiora and the Giants seems to get uglier by the day. With the depth the Giants have along their Super Bowl-winning front seven, they aren’t in a position where they have to overpay for a player like Umenyiora. In fact, they don’t necessarily have to even pay full value for someone like him. That has created a lot of tension between Osi and the front...

Osi Umenyiora says Jerry Reese is making him look like a “greedy pig”

Now that we’re about three months into another NFL offseason, it looks like another war between New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora and general manager Jerry Reese is brewing in the swamps of New Jersey. Yesterday, during the Giants’ post-draft press conference, Reese claimed that he offered Umenyiora a contract extension last year as well as this offseason and that he...

Giants may trade Osi Umenyiora

This morning, Eric Edholm of ProFootballWeekly.com tweeted that both Browns quarterback Colt McCoy and Dallas Cowboys cornerback Mike Jenkins could end up getting traded since we now know they’re both on the trade block. Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger replied to his tweet and said that he should put Osi Umenyiora on that list because you “never know.” Now we don...

Giants select RB David Wilson 32nd overall out of Virgina Tech

With the final pick of the night, the Giants select RB David Wilson out of Virgina Tech 32nd overall. I didn't think GM Jerry Reese would pick a running back in the first round, but he most know what he has in David Wilson. A lot of mock drafts had the Giants taking a offensive tackle, tight end or linebacker. Well that didn't happen. David Wilson is an explosive runner...

New York Giants select David Wilson, Grace B-

I have to wonder if the New York Giants were prepared to take Doug Martin and panicked when the Bucs moved up and landed him with the 31st pick. David Wilson is a decent prospect, who I gave a 2nd-round grade, but I’m not excited about how he fits in New York. As long as he holds on to the football he’ll be a quality running back, but just doesn’t project as a difference maker...

NY Giants Day 3 Draft Selections

Day 3 of the NFL 2012 Draft is officially over.  Now teams are busy as we read and write, scrambling to lock up UFAs that were not drafted.  It is Day 3 when you can really make your draft, contrary to all of the media hype of Day 1.  Yes, in Day 1 you are talking about much higher probabilities for these players being in the NFL for multiple seasons.  Day 3 picks and UFAs can...

NY Giants Draft RB David Wilson from Virginia Tech

TweetThe New York Giants draft RB David Wilson in the first round with the 32nd overall pick. Wilson, an athletic, fast running back out of Virginia Tech was highly regarded by Jerry Reese and the organization. The only RB New York had ahead of Wilson was Trent Richardson out of Alabama. Some fans found the pick surprising and were not very happy about it but who are we to argue...
