My Sports Rumors:
After this years disappointing performance the New York Giants are going to need to make some wholesale changes, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Many complain about the secondary but one of the main problems is that their defensive line has gotten old and bad, very fast and that’s the strength of the defense. Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com suggests that the team could even let fan favorite Justin Tuck go this off season.
Umenyiora is right that “wholesale changes” probably are coming. Umenyiora and Tuck top the list of potential big names that could be let go.(Gregg Rosenthal – NFL.com)
While I’d hate to see this happen, the NFL is a business. A business of winning and the current group of players just isn’t getting it done.
I’ve been a favorite of Tuck since his rise to fame during the 2007-08 season. In all honesty though he’s disappeared over the past two seasons.
Over the past two years he’s had a total of eight sacks over 26 games. He’s also missed six games over those two seasons. So some of his production can be attributed to health but is it possible that he’s gotten older, lost a step and offenses have figured out how to handle him?
For Perry Fewell’s defense to be successful that unit has to pressure the quarterback and it’s something they just don’t do consistently anymore. Will letting Tuck go help them do that? Possibly, Possibly not.
What it will do is save the Giants some money as Tuck is due $4.5 million in 2013. Maybe they can bring him back at a cheaper rate and get some additional help. At this point though Tuck isn’t worth that high of a salary as he’s performed at a reserve level.

Are the Giants are trying to miss the playoffs?
Here are my Power Rankings and a quick note about each team.
1) San Francisco - Don't panic, Seattle doesn't lose at home.
2) Texans - They are solid on both sides of the ball.
3) Patriots - Suspect defense keep them from the top spot.
4) Denver - On the rise, are they a Super Bowl sleeper?
5) Falcons - They need...
NOT GIVING UP YET
With the slumping Giants facing a must-win game for even a hope at qualifying for the playoffs, head coach Tom Coughlin thinks players need to “resurrect a little bit of pride.”
Tom Coughlin knows this is how it goes, one year you’re the champ, the next you’re the chump. You can’t win them all, but you can win one for pride. The proud Giants need help to get into the playoffs, a little too much help to realistically sit on a wing of hope. However, Coughlin doesn’t quit and he won’ let his team go under either. “That’s what I talked to our...
Another week, another blowout loss for the suddenly sinking G-Men, who've went from first to finished in the span of two games.
The postseason is now a pipe-dream for New York, and a furious Jason Pierre-Paul believes his team doesn't belong in the tournament.
“Do we deserve it by the way we played? Do we?” Pierre-Paul said, via the Daily News. “I don’t think so...
The New York Giants won't go down without a fight despite throwing away control of their playoff destiny with lopsided losses the past two weeks.
Coach Tom Coughlin was perplexed Monday when asked about the embarrassing losses to Atlanta and Baltimore that have left the defending Super Bowl champions needing a ton of help to get back to the postseason.
New York (8-7) has to...
With the Giants on the brink of seeing their playoff hopes completely vanish -– New York is still mathematically alive but will need a lot of help to get in -- defensive end Osi Umenyiora said he's reflected a bit over his career with the NFL team that drafted him, and has come to accept that there is a "very real possibility" that this is his final season as a Giant...
The New York Football Giants look like they once again forgot that nothing is handed to you, especially in the NFL! This time it looks to be too late, needing a win against Philly, a Cowboy loss to Wash, Green Bay to beat Minnesota, and the Bears to fall to a Lions team that cannot get out of it’s own way, just to make the playoffs. It was just last season where they were...
When the New York Giants face the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17 of the 2012 NFL season, they will do so with their playoff chances being on life support. The Giants need to not only defeat the Eagles, but need losses from the Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Vikings. They also may be preparing to play with Osi Umenyiora on their team for the final time.
“Is there a...
The finals have come and gone in most leagues. Hopefully many of you are celebrating championships. Inevitably, most aren’t. After looking at what happened in Week 16, we’ve put together the Fantasy Football Lumps of Coal Team.
This team could very well have been a legitimate starting team in the championships…and completely fell on its face. Without further delay, let’s...
Eli Manning might want to change his nickname from "Easy" to "Woozy" after the consecutive beatdowns the New York Giants quarterback has gone through over the past two weeks.
Last Sunday's 34-0 blowout by the Atlanta Falcons was compounded by yesterday's ugly 33-14 loss to the Baltimore Ravens which left the Giants signal caller looking for more than...
