Fantasy Sports Locker Room:
The fantasy community has been saying it all summer – “its only a matter of time before Giovani Bernard proves that he’s the better fit for the Bengals’ system and the better back overall.” Tonight, on football’s biggest stage, he proved it. Bernard checked in after Cincinnati’s offense sputtered for most of the first quarter revitalizing the offense on the team’s last full drive of the period. The score that culminated the drive was set up by Andy Dalton hitting fellow rookie Tyler Eifert on a well designed play which saw AJ Green’s sluggo route draw safety Troy Polamalu away from the middle of the field leaving the seam wide open, but the drive drive belonged to Bernard. He is an entirely different back than Green-Ellis and the offense looked much more dynamic with him as a part of it. The Law Firm finished his evening with a respectable line, with 80 total yards on 23 touches. He out carried Bernard considerably in this contest too, but he simply isn’t the game breaker that the junior back appears to be. In Week 1 Green-Ellis played in 37 snaps to Bernard’s 22. In Week 2 the distribution of playing time was similarly disproportionate, with Bernard netting just nine touches. Last week the rookie averaged 5.5 YPC (on just four attempts) compared to BenJarvus’ 1.8 on 14. In Week 2 it was 4.8 to 3.4. The numbers do tell a certain part of the story but what was most telling was Bernard’s inside run for the score in the 1st quarter. His first career touchdown didn’t come on a well placed block or an outside run, Bernard burst through the middle and carried four would-be tacklers into the endzone with him. It was a power run from a back whose ability to run between the tackles was questioned by many. Coupled with the 27 yard scamper on the end of a short Dalton pass Bermard displayed a versatility that Green-Ellis simply can’t offer. Moving into Week 3 Giovani Bernard is poised to continue his ascension to the starter’s job. Barring injury, he’s unlikely to see a true workhorse number of touches in any given week, certainly not in the short-term, but he showed us tonight that he doesn’t need that type of volume to be a contributor for your fantasy team. I’ve been saying it since the preseason, Bernard is a player you want to own. Go and make some offers, if your Gio owner is a box score tracker and nothing more, you might be able to get away with one – after all BJGE is still clearly receiving starters reps. Even if you overpay on today’s production, though, come midseason you’ll be rewarded. The post Giovani Bernard commands bigger role in Bengals offense appeared first on Fantasy Sports Locker Room.

Heels in the Pro’s: Giovani Bernard
If you are a UNC Football fan like I am, and you follow the former Heels at the next level, then last night’s Monday Night Football game must have been a heck of a treat, as Giovani Bernard presented himself to the NFL in a pretty special way.
Really cool when good things happen to good people. @G_Bernard25's first NFL TD, but not his last...
Despite a mediocre night statistically for AJ Green, only 6 receptions for 41 yards and zero touchdowns, the Cincinnati Bengals and their star receiver beat the Pittsburgh Steelers tonight by a score of 20-10 to notch their first win of the 2013 NFL season. While watching the Bengals slowly dispose the Steelers in this game and provide backing to their pre season expectations...
The 2013 Pittsburgh Steelers weren't supposed to start off the season this way after such a dismal 2012 season. Talk of a rebirth and a return back to the old Steeler way was the mantra in the offseason, but none could've foreshadowed this.
Week one handed them a cruel hand as key players went down with injuries. This week, little used rookie Bengals running back Giovani...
The Cincinnati Bengals have announced that they have released RB Bernard Scott from the reserve/physically unable to perform list.
Scott, 29, suffered a torn ACL last October, which to forced the Bengals to keep him on their PUP list begin the season. It’s actually been somewhat surprising to see how long he’s remained with the team, despite never living up expectations.
Touted rookies Tyler Eifert and Giovani Bernard have given the Bengals a more explosive offense. That's a big deal for a team eyeing something more than one-and-done in the playoffs.
Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green has quite a large sneaker collection. It looks like he has a lot in common with Colin Kaepernick.

While James Harrison is haunting opposing teams on the field, his ghost is busy haunting the Monday Night Football booth.
Marvin Lewis, who is the second-most tenured coach in the NFL behind Bill Belichick, wondered if his time was up in Cincinnati. Instead, with new faces in key places, he's coaching a team coming off back-to-back playoff appearances. The Bengals host the Packers on Sunday.
Bootsy Collins was at the Bengals versus Steelers game on Monday night, and he wasn't even the most outlandishly-dressed person in the stadium.
The biggest question raised after Monday’s announcement that Juan Pablo Montoya would be going back to the Izod IndyCar series in 2014 is will this open the door to seeing Kyle Larson in the car before the close of the season. The first reason this would make sense is that[...]
The Cincinnati Bengals have never made the playoffs three years in a row. The Pittsburgh Steelers have never missed the postseason in back-to-back seasons under coach Mike Tomlin. Those possibilities are both in play Monday night. While it’s only Week 2 of the NFL season, history shows that the loser of Monday night’s Steelers-Bengals matchup in Cincinnati is likely to be watching...
The Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals meet in Week 2 in a match-up of two AFC North teams trying to avoid an 0-2 start.
Pittsburgh looked awful in a loss to Tennessee while Cincinnati suffered a road loss in Chicago.
On Monday night these two teams will play against each other at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati, OH. ESPN will carry this game live beginning at 8:30 pm ET...
Andy Dalton is very kind to be giving Pittsburgh a sporting chance by missing open receivers throughout the first half. The inaccuracy was especially bad in the first few Cincinnati drives, with Dalton overthrowing three wideouts open for first downs. The Steelers opened scoring thanks to an impressive Antonio Brown punt return that got them 20 yards into Bengals territory. They did...
