A lot was made of 5 rookie quarterbacks starting week one of the NFL season this year. Heading into the week most of us had no idea what to expect but when the dust settled this is what happened.

Andrew Luck
Bears beat the Colts 41-21

Luck went 23 for 45. He had three interceptions, one lost fumble and one touchdown. The first overall pick threw for 309 yards in a losing effort. I watched the game in its entirety and saw some good things and some bad things. Luck was sacked three times but did get his first career touchdown pass late in the game to Donnie Avery. There is no doubt in my mind the Colts' QB has a bright future, but this first year will be a learning experience he will never forget. Don't forget Peyton Manning threw 28 interceptions his rookie year. Luck went against a tough defense and was a bit unlucky. I'm giving the Stanford Graduate a C+ grade... Probably the first "C+" he's seen in years.

Robert Griffin III
Redskins beat the Saints 40-32

RG3 went 19 for 26. He threw two touchdowns and fumbled once (not lost). After only throwing 31 passes this preseason, the former Baylor Bear came out firing in Mike Shanahan's offense. He ran 10 times for 42 yards and threw for 320 yards. Robert Griffin III made big time plays and looked poised in the pocket throughout the game. Bounty Scandal or not, the Saints are a great team. RG3 gets an A+ grade.

Ryan Tannehill
Texans beat the Dolphins

Ryan Tannehill went 20 for 36. He threw three interceptions and fumbled once (not lost). Tannehill and Dolphins looked over matched as they were down 24-3 at the half. If it wasn't for a Marcus Thigpen 72 yard punt return the final score could have been worse. The rookie QB found running back Reggie Bush 6 times out of the backfield on his way to having at least one completion to seven different receivers. He was sacked three times and just looked out of place. Tannehill gets an F grade.
  Brandon Weeden
Eagles beat the Browns 17-16

I had picked the Browns to upset the Eagles in the opener. The Browns could have easily done just that if it wasn't for Weeden and his four picks.

Brandon Weeden went 12 for 35. He threw four interceptions and had two fumbles (both not lost). Weeden looked awful, as did rookie running back Trent Richardson, but even with a chance to make a late drive, Weeden would fail on his first attempt as he tossed his 4th interception of the game to Kurt Coleman. It was Coleman's second pick of the game. I'm giving Weeden an F grade... Shocker.

Russell Wilson
Cardinals beat the Seahawks 20-16

Wilson went 18 for 34. He threw one touchdown and one interception. He accounted for 153 yards through the air and another 20 on the ground. Wilson was sacked 3 times and had lost one fumble. Head Coach Pete Carroll was fairly conservative in his play calling. He did lead the Seahawks down the field late in the game and had a chance to score but failed on a last second throw to Braylon Edwards. The ball was catch-able and for that I'm giving Wilson a C- grade.

In short,
Robert Griffin III - A
Andrew Luck - C+
Russel Wilson - C-
Ryan Tannehill - F
Brandon Weeden - F

If you were wondering these 5 QB's combined for 92 for 176 (52%), four touchdowns and eleven interceptions.
