Two of the greatest players for the Washington Redskins Super Bowl winning teams, Darrell Green and Art Monk, think that the organization should stop ignoring and really consider a name change, due to it being perceived by many as a racist epithet. Team owner Daniel Snyder has gone on record saying that the name with never change, but that hasn’t stopped activists and different groups from protesting the team name. Monk and Green spoke WTOP radio about the topic, and gave answers that probably won’t be the most popular with those that run the team. “[If] Native Americans feel like Redskins or the Chiefs or [another] name is offensive to them, then who are we to say to them ‘No, it’s not’?” Monk says. “It deserves and warrants conversation because somebody is saying, ‘Hey, this offends me,’” Green says. Monk doesn’t expect there to be consideration, but thinks it should be ‘seriously considered,’ regardless. Former teammate Joe Theismann believes the name should remain, of course, he wants to be in the good graces of Snyder, because he’s angling for a job with the organization.
