In an effort to support domestic violence prevention throughout Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, the Green Bay Packers and Verizon Wireless have "connected" to promote healthy relationship campaigns. The awareness campaign, named "Protection in the Name of the Game," take advantage of Packer home games by promoting season long phone drivers, financial donations, and public service announcements starring Packer players like Greg Jennings. It is in these PSAs that the main message of this awareness campaign is shared: "Hey Packer fans," says Greg Jennings in an as-yet unreleased radio spot, "Just because the Packers lose doesn't mean you can beat your wife. Seriously, knock that off." The message is both timely and sometimes difficult to hear for Packer fans. It's timely, because recorded cases of domestic violence sky rocketed upwards during the beginning of this football season, as the Packers' season started with a 2-3 record. Seemingly every minute during a Sunday evening, Wisconsin's finest were getting calls from women not so much fearing their own safety from their husbands, but disgusted with their lazy attempts at verbal abuse. Cat calls of, "Yeah, well your favorite team SUCKS!" were used in several households, confusing women all the more, because they had the favorite team as their significant others did, 99% of the time, in the Green Bay Packers. The message is also difficult to hear at this time, because if you are to ask any male in Wisconsin to stop beating their wife, they'll say "That's a trick request! If I say 'OK' then it sounds like I've already beat her, which I haven't, you liberal puke, and if I say 'NO' then it sounds like I'm going to continue to do so anyway! You can't trap me with your word play and your college degree, you snot nosed punk!" Telling Packer fans that this isn't circular logic, it's just a general tip, doesn't seem to help. However, the message is true. "Women - and men - deserve to be treated with respect, no matter the win-loss record" continued Jennings in his PSA. "And when I say men, I especially mean men. You, too, can be a victim of verbal domestic abuse when you are laughed at and kicked in the ribs while crying on the floor after another Packers loss. If this happens to you, make sure to tell your wife that you have feelings too, and then call 9-1-1, and scream 'HELP!' very loudly in your neighborhood, so everyone knows you were getting beaten by your wife."
