Could Cedric Benson be the answer to the Packers RB Problems? Even after three straight 1,000 yard season, the Cincinnati Bengals elected to let Cedric Benson walk in the off season. Rumors swirled about the Oakland Raiders, but nothing materialized. Benson was left in the Free Agent pool, as he had to stay in shape at his home, as he waited for the call, the security of an NFL contract. The lack of interest could be credited to numerous arrests while in Cincinnati, and because of his mediocre 3.9 Yards Per Carry Benson averaged in 2011. It isn’t entirely Benson’s fault as the league transitions to pass heavy, leaving Running Backs like Benson, RB Ryan Grant, and Joseph Addai all unemployed heading into Training Camp. Finally Benson is one of 90 men all fighting for 53 spots on an NFL roster. As reported by ESPN’s Chris Mortensen (@mortreport) Benson is in Green Bay ready to sign a contract with the Green Bay Packers. It was an unexpected move, but a notable one worth talking about....

Benson headed to Green Bay

The Green Bay Packers solidified their tailback depth on Friday, plucking the former Bengals running back off the free agent market.

Cedric Benson Joins the Pack…

Cedric Benson will probably commit his next criminal action in Green Bay! So, congratulations to the residents and bar owners there. The veteran running back's best days are behind him but he will have a chance to outperform competition in Green Bay. This signing is reflective of the poor performance thus far in camp by incumbent starter James Starks. He has underwhelmed...

Cedric Benson to Green Bay?

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that free agent Cedric Benson is currently in Green Bay and expected to sign with the Packers. Green Bay is no doubt a very pass-happy offense, but adding a veteran presence to the backfield may help in key division games or in tough redzone situations. Benson is ageing rapidly, especially with his off-season problems and visits to the local state...

Packers sign Cedric Benson

After going fully with a youth approach at the running back position this offseason, the Packers have finally caved and signed a veteran back, signing Cedric Benson, formerly of the Cincinnati Bengals, to a one year contract. Prior to Benson’s signing, the idea was to have James Starks, a 2010 6th round pick with just 162 career carries, and Alex Green, a 2011 3rd round pick with...

Cedric Benson officially joins Packers

As expected, the Packers have bolstered their backfield. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Cedric Benson officially signed a one-year contract on Sunday, becoming Green Bay’s newest running back. Financial terms aren’t yet available, though the pact is likely for the league minimum. Benson, 29, had been on the Packers’ radar for the last week due to starter James Starks‘ recent...

Cedric Benson to the Packers, Fantasy Football Analysis

As I was walking down the hallway today, I heard this loud destructive sound from the distance. I flinched for a moment, then realized it was the dynasty value of James Starks crashing down as the Packers are reportedly poised to sign Cedric Benson tonight. Dynasty owners were cautiously hoping Starks could develop into the lead back for Green Bay this season and be a nice...

New RB Benson Bolsters Battered Backfield

Before the addition of Cedric Benson, the Packers had been down to four running backs for practice this week, with injuries to James Starks and Brandon Saine, among others. At least by the numbers, Benson offers a dramatic upgrade to a young position.

Cedric Benson to sign with Packers

With a lackluster performance by James Starks so far this training camp and the off-season departure of Ryan Grant, the Green Bay Packers appeared to be thin at running back entering the 2012 season. To address this issue, the Packers are reportedly close to signing veteran running back Cedric Benson. According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN.com, Benson is in Green Bay to meet with the...

What Is Cedric Benson’s Fantasy Value?

As this is being written, the Packers appear very close to signing Cedric Benson, even though nothing has been made official. But Green Bay suddenly appears to be in need of a healthy back, particularly if he is an upgrade over the current options on the roster. Until very recently, it appeared that James Starks would be employed as the team’s feature back, especially...

Four-Point Stance: Training Camp No. 13

Nobody has broken down the Cedric Benson transaction like Packer Report, and we continue by providing some must-read context to Benson's fumbling history. Plus, our rookie of the day is an undrafted free agent and our position of the day is the eyeballs-deep defensive line.

Green Bay Packers: Offensive Analysis

In 2011 the Green Bay Packers' offense put up the second most points in league history. While 2012 success hinges on the improvement of the defense, this edition of my look at the upcoming Packers' season focuses on the dynamic offense. The seemingly unstoppable offense had few changes in the offseason. For the first time in 12 years Green Bay will not have Mark Tauscher...

Preseason effects on Packers' depth chart

GREEN BAY, Wis. It's been more than two weeks since the Green Bay Packers held their first training camp practice of the 2012 season. The way the team lined up on Day 1 looks quite different than it does now, less than one month before the regular season kicks off. The movement on the Packers' depth chart is based on a combination of injuries, player improvement or decline...
