Green Bay Packers head coach MIke McCarthy reported that eleven players would not be on the playing field during the pre season opener against the San Diego Chargers. Two of the eleven players are out due to mild concussions, Greg Jennings and Marshall Newhouse will continue to recover this week.

Missing the Thursday opener will be Mike McCabe offensive lineman, Eric Lair tight end, Sam Shields cornerback, Brandon Saine running back, Jon Hoese fullback, Ray Dominguez offensive lineman, Ryan Taylor tight end, Tori Gurley wide receiver, and Du'ane Bennett running back. All nine of these players will be side lined while recovering from injuries.

While these eleven players will not be on the field there will be a first time event happening during the Green Bay Packers opener, the game will mark the first female to officiate a NFL game. Shannon Eastin will be working the pre season opener on Thursday evening and she brings 16 years of officiating experience to the NFL game. Shannon Eastin has been officiating in the Mid Eastern Athletic Conference and has been hired to work as a replacement official by the NFL. Shannon Eastin says while she might be a little nervous when the game begins Shannon knows she will do her very best Thursday evening.
