Green Bay Packers’ Matt LaFleur Has Positive Update On Young Star

With the NFL Draft now over for the Green Bay Packers, head coach Matt LaFleur recently gave an update on one of his young players. As they get prepared for their offseason activities, expectations are certainly higher than they were at the start of last season.

After a great first season post-Aaron Rodgers, the Packers are looking to move full steam ahead and be a playoff contender once again this coming season. Recently, LaFleur spoke about how the rehabbing of cornerback Eric Stokes is going so far this offseason.

Here’s what he had to say to Zach Kruse of USA Today and PackersWire. “He’s been full go. He looks great,” LaFleur said Saturday.

“I think yeah, once you get into a more competitive environment, less controlled, I think you wanna see how people respond, but I’ve been really happy with how these guys have been training in regards to the routines and just watching the effort that they’ve been putting on tape,” LaFleur said.

Seeing that Stokes is getting healthy and preparing for the 2024 season is great news for the Packers. Unfortunately last season, Stokes was injured early on in the season and was forced to miss the remainder of the year.

As a 2021 first-round pick, Stokes has some high expectations heading into the 2024 season. With a great cornerback in Jaire Alexander already on the roster, the Packers need to make sure they have a good starter opposite of him if teams choose to avoid throwing at Alexander.

Stokes played very well as a rookie, but we will have to see how he can perform after missing so much time due to injury. If Stokes can be healthy for the Packers, he and Alexander have the potential to be a very strong cornerback duo in the league. With the NFL so passing prevalent, having a strong secondary has become more and more important.
