There have been some happenings in Packers camp the past couple of days so I saw it as a chance to write up a summary of what is going on so people are aware.

It seems the injury Desmond Bishop suffered during the Packers pre-season game against the Chargers was a bad one.  Bishop will be out for the season.  This is a big hit to the Packers defense that was already struggling as a unit.  To lose a guy like Bishop will really set them back and force other guys on the defense to really step up and fill his shoes.  Another injury worth noting is James Starks who has been missing practice time recently with turf toe.  This should only limit him for a little while but he has been having a tough camp and didn’t perform well during the Packers pre-season game so any time he isn’t on the field getting better is not good for the Packers.

The Packers made a move to hopefully boost their running attack by signing running back Cedric Benson.  While its not a big impact signing, Benson assures Packer fans he still has “some left in the tank.”  His stats from last season are solid, he ran for over 1,000 yards, averaging just under four yards per carry.  I feel this is a good pick up for the Packers as Benson can provide some veteran leadership for the younger running back core the Packers currently have.  Hopefully he can give Starks some help and together they can form a solid running game for the Packers.  We could really use it.

Yesterday the Packers gave guard TJ Lang an extension to his contract.  Lang was only one of two linemen to start every game for the Packers last year and has been a stable lineman throughout his four year career so far.  This is a good move by the Packers as it makes sure that Lang will stay on this team and if his career continues as it goes that means the Packers will have him starting every game for the rest of this contract.

Thats just a quick rundown at what has been happening at Packers camp through the last week.  The Packers play their next pre-season game tomorrow night at home against the Cleveland Browns.  Both the team and the fans will be looking for improvements from the last game.

McCarthy preaching ball security after loss

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Preseason or not, NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers' first-team offense has hardly looked like the group that led the NFL in scoring last season. In six drives so far through two games, including the Packers' 35-10 loss Thursday night at home to the Cleveland Browns, Green Bay's starters have produced only seven total points with one interception...

Is Three Still A Crowd At Quarterback For Packers?

Rookie quarterback B.J. Coleman has all the physical tools needed to play in the NFL The Green Bay Packers haven’t opened a regular season with three quarterbacks on the roster since 2008, but that could change come September. If seventh-round draft pick B.J. Coleman continues to develop, there’s a chance he could join starter Aaron Rodgers and backup Graham Harrell on the final...

Green Bay Packers extend G TJ Lang

I don’t normally criticize things the Packers do, but this really seems like the Packers are buying high. Lang only has one year of starting experience and it’s not like he was an elite guard or anything last year. Making 15 starts, including playoffs, he graded out as ProFootballFocus’ 19th ranked guard. He’s better in pass protection, where he ranked 6th at his position...

Packers respond to Rodgers' genuine nature

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- When the Packers' defensive linemen are playing cards inside the locker room, Aaron Rodgers sits down to deal a hand. When undrafted rookies are added to the team, Rodgers makes it a point to greet them, welcome them to Green Bay and get to know more about them. When offseason acquisition Anthony Hargrove wants to joke around on the field during practice, Rodgers...

No. 6 shines at Packers season opener

Chanting Green Bay Packer fans could be heard throughout Qualcomm Stadium on Thursday, even over the booing of the home crowd. All the support of their fans however, was not enough for them to secure a win. The Packers may have lost their season opener to the Chargers, but preseason games are the closest you [...]

Green Bay Packers Potential Breakout Player of 2012: DJ Smith

The great thing about the NFL is that there are so many positions that every year, there is almost always at least one player who has a breakout year on every team, no matter how good or bad the team is. This is one part in a 32 part segment detailing one potential breakout player for the 2012 NFL season on each NFL team. For the Green Bay Packers, that player is middle linebacker...

Solid Thursday For Saturday

Starting center Jeff Saturday is one of the oldest players in the NFL There’s a reason former Packer and current Ram Scott Wells will be paid nearly twice as much as Jeff Saturday this season – he’s a better player. But after carefully watching all of Saturday’s snaps from last Thursday’s game against the Chargers, I came away feeling pretty good about Green Bay’s new...

Packers face Browns, new wind patterns at Lambeau

Mike McCarthy and his assistants have plenty of young players to watch in the Green Bay Packers' preseason game against the Cleveland Browns on Thursday. They'll also be monitoring another relative unknown: The changing wind patterns at Lambeau Field. In the middle of a major expansion project, Lambeau has sprouted a massive superstructure with a giant video board in the...

Random Athlete Of The Day- Antonio Freeman

Antonio Freeman was one of Brett Favre’s greatest weapons. Sure, throughout his Green Bay career there was Donald Driver, Bill Schroeder, Corey Bradford, Bubba Franks, Javon Walker, and Robert Ferguson. But it’s Freeman who is the most underrated out of all of them. Freeman played football at Virginia Tech, he caught 93 balls for 1,534 yards and 16 touchdowns through his junior...
