GREEN BAY, WI - AUGUST 03: Desmond Bishop #55 of the Green Bay Packers rides a bike to practice as a young fan carries his helmut during summer training camp on August 3, 2009 at the Ray Nitschke Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. (Photo by Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images)

There have been some happenings in Packers camp the past couple of days so I saw it as a chance to write up a summary of what is going on so people are aware.

It seems the injury Desmond Bishop suffered during the Packers pre-season game against the Chargers was a bad one.  Bishop will be out for the season.  This is a big hit to the Packers defense that was already struggling as a unit.  To lose a guy like Bishop will really set them back and force other guys on the defense to really step up and fill his shoes.  Another injury worth noting is James Starks who has been missing practice time recently with turf toe.  This should only limit him for a little while but he has been having a tough camp and didn’t perform well during the Packers pre-season game so any time he isn’t on the field getting better is not good for the Packers.

The Packers made a move to hopefully boost their running attack by signing running back Cedric Benson.  While its not a big impact signing, Benson assures Packer fans he still has “some left in the tank.”  His stats from last season are solid, he ran for over 1,000 yards, averaging just under four yards per carry.  I feel this is a good pick up for the Packers as Benson can provide some veteran leadership for the younger running back core the Packers currently have.  Hopefully he can give Starks some help and together they can form a solid running game for the Packers.  We could really use it.

Yesterday the Packers gave guard TJ Lang an extension to his contract.  Lang was only one of two linemen to start every game for the Packers last year and has been a stable lineman throughout his four year career so far.  This is a good move by the Packers as it makes sure that Lang will stay on this team and if his career continues as it goes that means the Packers will have him starting every game for the rest of this contract.

Thats just a quick rundown at what has been happening at Packers camp through the last week.  The Packers play their next pre-season game tomorrow night at home against the Cleveland Browns.  Both the team and the fans will be looking for improvements from the last game.
