It is a part of the game, but any time a future Hall of Famer is cut it comes as a surprise to everyone. On Friday morning the Green Bay Packers released S Charles Woodson.
Charles Woodson spent 7 seasons in Green Bay, winning his first Super Bowl in 2010 and AP Defensive Player of the Year in 2009. Woodson started at CB for the Packers until this season when they moved him to S this season as his coverage skills started to decline. While Woodson’s last season in Green Bay was marked mostly by a broken collarbone that cost him much of the regular season, it is what Woodson did throughout his career that stands out.
Woodson was a playmaker in the Packers secondary, someone who could deliver a big hit to force a fumble or he could pick off a pass and return it 60 yards for a score. Woodson lived to make plays, he had 9 defensive TD’s throughout his 7-year stint in Green Bay with 38 interceptions. What really made Woodson special was the leadership and knowledge he brought to the gam...

GREEN BAY, Wis. Respected veteran players like Charles Woodson can have an impact on NFL teams, even if it's not with their on-field production. It's impossible to quantify the value that it adds, but many players believe it to be true and sometimes that is more than half the battle while the collective group physically and mentally grinds through a challenging season.
It is being reported out of Green Bay that the Packers are releasing former All-Pro defensive back Charles Woodson. With this move, Woodson should become the most targeted defensive player by all teams looking for a safety or simply a leader that can lead their defense to greatness.Woodson had a down season in 2012, only playing seven games. He had 38 combined tackles, 1.5 sacks, 1...

Defensive back Charles Woodson helped the Packers win the Super Bowl two years ago
Charles Woodson was due a base salary of $6.5 million with a roster bonus of $2.5 million the first day of training camp, so it was only a matter of time before the Packers either renegotiated the future Hall of Famer’s contract or simply moved on without him. GM Ted Thompson opted for choice No...
According to a report, the Green Bay Packers are set to release defensive back Charles Woodson. Woodson, 36, was moved from cornerback to safety last season.
Money is the main issue for the decision. Woodson was set to make $9 million in 2013. The former Heisman trophy winner is an eight time pro-bowler and NFL defensive player of the year in 2009. He has 55 interceptions in 206 career NFL
Charles Woodson doesn’t have a football job.
Donald Driver just retired from his.
Greg Jennings is likely headed for a short stay on the unemployment line.
It’s that time of year when you realize there are major differences in the way fans feel about “their” teams and the way it is viewed by those that play for and manage those teams.
Pro football, as they say, is a business...
I don’t really see it with Woodson because I think McCourty is more of the free safety-type...
If he is healthy he can help a team, but he is far removed from his glory days.
Released DB Charles Woodson’s agent Carl Poston: “He’d like to go play for a contender, win another Super Bowl. He caught that bug.”

Even though Super Bowl XLVII wrapped up the 2012-2013 NFL season, there is still plenty of action going on in the league. Granted all of it is happening off the field, yet there has been some activity around the league. Teams are looking at their respective rosters and seeing who is no longer needed. Some of the teams released some heavy hitters while other teams resigned players...
Without the retirement of Donald Driver and Jeff Saturday and Friday's release of Charles Woodson, the Packers have just one player older than 30 years old.
