Prime time showdown in Sea-town

I don’t think the snow will be falling like it was the last time these two teams met up on Monday Night Football, but one thing is for sure, one team will be leaving Seattle with a losing record.

After last weeks beat down of the Cowboys, I’m really antsy to see which Seahawks offense will show up this week, the one from week one, or the one from week two.

As long as Marshawn Lynch can keep trucking the ball up the middle, I think this will allow Russell Wilson to finally get an air-raid going.

Matchup: Green Bay vs. Seattle
Venue: CenturyLink Field
Time: 5:30 PM
Date: September 24th 2012
Weather: High 67, Low 51. Partly Sunny
Team Records: Seahawks (1-1) Packers (1-1)
Standings: Seahawks T-2nd NFC West. Packers T-1st NFC North

Game notes/How they match up

These two teams have had quite a bit of history over the last decade.

For starters, the Hawks have had two former Green Bay QB’s, a former coach, and how could we forget the arrogance of Matt Hasselbeck during the overtime coin toss of a playoff game between the two teams, “We want the ball, and we’re going to score.”

Well we didn’t score, but Hasselbeck did end up throwing the final TD pass of the game, even though it was to his former team. Anyways, enough about that.

This week really has me intrigued. The Packers have not looked like the former power house that they were last year, Aaron Rodgers has really been decent at best.

A first week loss to San Francisco, then an extremely sloppy win over Chicago last week, and they are sitting at 1-1 with a lot of question marks surrounding them.

Same could be said about the Seahawks too though. A rough loss in Arizona where the offense never really got going, then a blowout at home against Dallas last week where the defense and special teams stepped it up.

This game could go either way, depending on which teams actually show up.

What to watch: Seattle

How will they respond to last weeks win is the key to this game.

Can the defense disrupt the timing of Aaron Rodgers and Jordy Nelson enough to make an impact?

Or better yet, can the 12th man make enough noise to disrupt the snap counts at the line of scrimmage.

Marshawn Lynch and Russell Wilson will be key in this game offensively for the Hawks. If Lynch is tearing it up on the ground, Wilson will have an easier time making passes against the Packers D.

If not, his scrambling abilities may be tested early.

It’s time for one, or any of the Hawks receivers to finally step up and be the man. Wilson can’t develop truly without a go-to guy, and none of them seem to want the distinction early on this year.

What to watch: Green Bay

For the Packers this game will be all about Aaron Rodgers, as most of them are anyways.

According to Packers coach Mike McCarthy, the offense is ”not far off.” That is a very scary thought, especially knowing that they have struggled for two straight games, let’s hope that Monday isn’t their coming out party.

Greg Jennings is nursing a groin injury, but is expected to play, so he will be a player to watch on Monday too, if he isn’t getting open, expect Jordy Nelson to be Rodgers’ main target.

Seattle O vs Green Bay D

As mentioned above, Lynch and Wilson will need to carry this team against a tough Packers D.

Lynch has had some memorable moments in primetime, maybe he can replicate that this week.

Skittles anyone?

Will Marshawn go off again in primetime?

Clay Mathews is always a handful on the Packers defensive side of things, and rumor has it that the Seahawks will be trying to stick an extra body on him all game long.

Green Bay O vs. Seattle D

The Packers offense could easily start their entire unit at the Pro Bowl.

The Seahawks defense will be kept busy all night with them.

Cedric Benson will try his hardest to be the first back this year to have a significant game against the Hawks run D.

The secondary really will have their hands full with the likes of Donald Driver, Nelson, Jennings, and Jermichael Finley running routs on them.

Injury report

Seahawks: Not known at deadline, but Doug Baldwin and Byron Maxwell did not participate in Friday’s practice.

Packers: Not known at deadline. Jamari Lattimore was out of Friday’s practice, and Greg Jennings was held to limited practice.

Predictions

Green Bay holds the line currently at 3.

I’m 0-2 so far this season with my predictions, and both times I went with the line, though I embellished the outcome a bit, so this week I’m going against the grain.

Seahawks 24 – Packers 21

Packers hope to expose Wilson's inexperience

GREEN BAY, Wis. There will no doubt be at least a small group of Wisconsin residents who will be somewhat torn while watching Monday night's game between the state's beloved Packers and the Russell Wilson-led Seattle Seahawks. Tackling Will Be Put to Test Against Lynch

He’s nicknamed “Beast Mode” for a reason. Just ask the New Orleans Saints to flash back to the 2010 playoffs for an answer. Or ask the Dallas Cowboys, who were run over by him last Sunday. Marshawn Lynch will be a unique physical challenge for the Packers on Monday night in Seattle.

Future of short QB’s rests in Russell Wilson

Never since Doug Flutie, has there been a quarterback come into the NFL with such an illustrious winning background out of college who was never given a true shot as a starter in Kellen Moore of the Detroit Lions. Moore came from a college career with Boise State finishing 50-3 as a starter, becoming the all-time quarterback in NCAA Division 1 FBS with the most wins. However the...
