You know a team is in bad shape when its third-string quarterback is taking potshots. Luckily, that’s not the case — this year. While Jets third-string (or backup, or starter, depending on the week) quarterback Greg McElroy was among those chiming in on the poor state of the Jets’ chemistry after last season, he sounded very supportive of the team on Sirius XM’s Mad Dog Radio this week. McElroy said the team was not a circus, and that things were not as bad as they seemed. “It wasn’t at all,” McElroy said, as reported by the Newark Star-Ledger. “A lot of people assumed things weren’t terrible. It wasn’t the case.” McElroy also supported just-fired offensive coordinator Tony Sparano, who took much of the heat for the Jets’ offensive troubles this year. “I think he’s a tremendous man,” McElroy said. “I think he’s a tremendous football mind, and I was really blessed to have had the opportunity to work with him for this past year. … I really enjoyed working with him, and I always will wish him the best. I’ll be a Tony Sparano fan for as long as I’m around.” It sounds like all’s well in Jets land now — but it may be just a few weeks late, and a few key players short, from when it was needed most.
