After sitting out the 2008 season after undergoing microfracture surgery on his left knee, Kelly Gregg appears to be rounding into his usual, effective form. The biggest indicator is that the defensive tackle has achieved something he had never done before: register a sack in three consecutive games.
Gregg has taken down Chicago’s Jay Cutler, Pittburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger and Oakland’s JaMarcus Russell. When informed of his accomplishment, Gregg broke out into a mischievous grin.
"I’m going to catch [Michael] Strahan [the former New York Giant who holds the single-season record for sacks with 22½ in 2001]," Gregg said. "No, even a blind dog finds a bone every once in a while. For a little bit there, I thought I was going to get shut out, but luckily, I came through a little bit."
Gregg said he hasn't noticed any changes in the way opposing offensive linemen are lining up against him that has contributed to his recent spate of sacks.
