Once the pariah of the NFL for his participation, or rather his presiding over the Saints bounty program, new Tennessee Titans senior assistant/defense Gregg Williams is bringing about a change in culture to the team's defense... this time, in a good way. David Climer of the Tennessean sat down with a few Titans to get their take on what Williams brings to the team. “The scheme is different but the real difference is the attitude,” CB Jason McCourty said. “We could tell that from the first day coach Williams was here. He told us he was coming here to change the culture.” Safety Bernard Pollard, a new addition to the team agrees. “Everybody’s right there — right at the edge,” he said. “Coach Williams says, ‘OK, now you’ve got to jump off and trust the fact that we’re trying to go in the right direction here.’ Climer writes: ' Pressure defense is in Williams’ DNA. It has been his calling card at six different coaching stops in the NFL (including twice with the Titans) over a 22-year career. He prefers to dictate what the offense does, not vice versa. He is proactive, not reactive.Time will tell if this change in approach will fix a defense that was easy pickings last season. One of the biggest digs against the Titans over the last handful of years is the lack of a pass rush and failure to lock down receivers in key situations. Because of personnel shortcomings and questionable strategy the defense bent and broke. '
