Right when we finally think the dust is settling regarding the Saints bounty program and the players involved, the plot thickens. In a recent declaration submitted to the NFL, Anthony Hargrove let the cat out of the bag, saying he was told by Gregg Williams and assistant coach Joe Vitt to deny that the bounty program existed.

Hargrove’s declaration can be seen here, courtesy of Yahoo! Sports.

This comes as no surprise to me, however, because the central theme regarding the investigation into the bounty system has been lying, and that is the exact reason in my mind that the punishments handed down, especially to Jonathan Vilma, were so severe. That is also the reason the punishments will be upheld, had they not tried to cover it up, Commissioner Goodell may have appreciated their honesty. Add the covering it up scandal to the already frowned upon bounty system, and you have a recipe for disaster.
