NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Robert Griffin III of the Washington Redskins has won The Associated Press 2012 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award, beating out two other sensational first-year quarterbacks.
Griffin, whose thrill-a-minute combination of running and passing skills led Washington to its first NFC East title in 13 years, pulled away from Andrew Luck of the Colts and Russell Wilson of the Seahawks in a lopsided vote announced Saturday.
RG3 earned 29 votes from a nationwide panel of 50 media members who regularly cover the league. Luck was next with 11 and Wilson got 10.
All three led their teams to the playoffs.
Griffin, who severely injured his right knee in a wild-card round loss to the Seahawks, set the NFL record for best passer rating by a rookie QB.
He accepted his award at the "2nd Annual NFL Honors" awards show on CBS saluting the NFL's best players, performances and plays from the 2012 season.

Even more specifically speaking, this was a great year for the athletic, dual threat quarterback...
Noticeably absent from Super Bowl XLVII was the NFL’s Rookie of the Year, Robert Griffin III. RG3 was selected second overall in last April’s NFL draft and led the Washington Redskins to the playoffs.
However he did not attend Super Bowl XLVII.
‘I’m a firm believer you don’t go to the Super Bowl unless you’re playing in it,” Griffin said via the Associated Press.
I was listening to ESPN’s Mike & Mike discuss the possibility of the read-option run by RG3, Russell Wilson and Colin Kaepernick to change the way the game is play, and I got to wondering… is that a change you would like to see?
This could be a moot question in a year or two. We are on the early side of the development of the read-option. If defenses figure out an effective...
From Game 1 RG3 was the most consistent rookie QB this year.
Since the Rookie of the Year is a regular season award, it was properly given to the rookie who had the best rookie season.

According to Alex Flanagan of the NFL Network, Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson game Robert Griffin III his phone number so he can share rehab tips with him.
