Fantasy Football is, when you get right down to it, a way for football fans to enjoy even more of their favorite sport. As a fantasy coach, it’s your job to put together a winning team that will carry you all the way to victory. And, in order to do that, you need to keep up with what’s happening in the real world of football. For instance, say you’re drafting and you decide to put Michael Vick on your team. He’s been having a pretty great season so far and-OH NO! Vick just tore his ACL. Rest assured this was hypothetical, but the point is that those of you invested in the world of FF know that the real world impacts your fantasy league. If Vick isn’t going to be playing any football, he’s not going to be scoring you any points for your FF team. That’s where it pays to keep track of it all. TV – The old mainstay for following football Thanks to TV, following football and how it impacts your Fantasy team has never been easier. Services like DIRECTV, for example, have stuff like NFL Sunday Ticket, which can offer details on every game and even comes with a player tracker. If all else fails, TV might just be the way to go when trying to follow your players’ progress. The Internet – Easy to find and use Fantasy Football sites and online resources are pretty easy to find. In fact, you’re reading this article on one right now. Typing “fantasy football” in a search engine will pretty much get you what you need. NFL.com has a Fantasy 101 page that really breaks it down. You also want to be sure and check out any blogs or personal sites as well that feature info on FF since these tend to take a more personalized approach and can offer some perspective. After all, FF, as far as your enjoyment of it, largely relies on the community and immersing yourself with other “players.” Plus, the conversation is a great way to gain some perspective on the players and teams you’re following. Get smart with your smartphone apps Another resource for keeping up with your fantasy players and their dealings in the real world is the humble smartphone. There are tons of apps you can download for these things and some of the best feature cheat sheets that allow you to plan and prepare your team. Some of these even let you access your spreadsheets and rosters while you’re on the move. This, as you can imagine, is extremely helpful if you’re out and about and you just witnessed a football foible that could impact your team. And, of course, there are podcasts and radio stations that all keep a pretty close eye on the game, as well. If a particular player isn’t looking so hot after training, well, you might think twice about drafting them. If the Jets are looking good defense-wise, according to ESPN, hey, might be a good idea to look them up. The thing to remember for veteran and newbie fantasy coaches alike is that you need to keep tabs on what’s happening in the real-world surrounding your players. Keep your eyes and ears open.
