Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham had strong words for all critics today, but he saved his most pointed comments for Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub. After defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh kicked Schaub in the groin on Thanksgiving, Schaub told a Houston radio station Monday that he would not want Suh on his team and that he was not “Houston Texan-worthy.” “What is a Texan, anyhow?” Cunningham scoffed, before he lit into Schaub. “You never make derogatory statements about another player and another team,” Cunningham said. “If you say that, then say it behind closed doors and keep it that way. But you don’t come out in the paper and start saying things like that. “And, you know, I’m sure Matt’s a great guy and he got caught up in the emotions. And I’ll forgive him for it — this time.” Suh took plenty of heat the past week for kicking an opponent in a second straight Thanksgiving game. But Cunningham said he was more than willing to defend Suh. “Any time you want me to,” he said. “I will forever. There’s no discussion on this defense. Shoot, who was it, (defense attorney) Melvin Belli? I’m not as good as him, but I’m pretty good at defending him. “I saw the play. I agree whoever said it on national TV that he has to have eyes in the back of his head. That’s the first thing I said. I thought I was ridiculous. I’m so tired of having to say things like that, but it’s true. “I coach football for living, I’ve done it for a long time. All kinds of things happen. He was trying to make a play and nobody talks about the guard talking him on the way to the quarterback. We get no call; they get a call — or he gets a fine, whatever it was.” Source: Detroit Free Press Attached Thumbnails

Colts interim head coach Bruce Arians could face tampering charges from the NFL for stating that he'd love to have Lions star Ndamukong Suh on his team.

Lions DC rips Schaub

Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham ripped Matt Schaub for his comments about Ndamukong Suh and defended Suh's hit.

Bruce Arians can expect a tampering charge for comment about Suh

It probably wasn’t meant a recruiting pitch, but Bruce Arians of the Indianapolis Colts went a little too far while discussing the talents of Ndamukong Suh. Arians made comments about Suh that were in contrast to those made by Texans QB, Matt Schaub. Unlike Schaub, Arians doesn’t see Suh as a dirty player. He should [...]

Ndamukong Suh says his past will always haunt him

Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh continues to claim that he accidentally kicked Texans quarterback Matt Schaub in the groin during last Thursday’s Thanksgiving game. Suh believes that he’ll never get the benefit of the doubt with the NFL because of last year’s Thanksgiving stomp against the Packers. “I think I’m always going to be punished in some form or fashion...

MORE NFL INCONSISTENCIES: Ndamukong Suh fined $30K for Matt Schaub groin kick

After not suspending Ndamukong Suh, the NFL announced Wednesday that they would fine the Lions DT $30,000 dollars for his kick to the groin of Texans quarterback Matt Schaub during last Thursday’s Thanksgiving Day game from Ford Field. During his weekly meeting with the media on Wednesday, Suh said the kick was unintentional due to his awkward fall when being dragged down. Suh...

Ndamukong Suh Gets Another Traffic Ticket

Ndamukong Suh is a highly-intelligent person, from what I gather. He simply is a dirty football player at times, and he can’t drive. Suh has been ticketed or involved in several different types of traffic situations, and was actually sued for an accident he was in last March. The Detroit Free Press is reporting that the Detroit Lions defensive tackle has been involved in another...

Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham is right in spirit to defend Ndamukong Suh…But, wrong in principle

Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham defended Ndamukong Suh yesterday after Texans quarterback Matt Schaub publicly blasted the notorious defensive tackle for booting him in the ballsack during the first quarter of Houston’s 34-31 overtime victory on Thanksgiving at Ford Field … Continue reading →

Video: Ndamukong Suh talks Texans

Ndamukong Suh has developed a reputation as Ric Flair would say as the “dirtiest player in the game.” After the NFL fined the Detroit Lions’ defensive tackle $30,000 for his Thanksgiving run in with Texans’ quarterback Matt Schaub, the hype behind his intentions and their place in the game reached a fever pitch. He recently sat down to somewhat defend himself and scoff...

Mady: The Present and Future of Suh

Indianapolis Colts' coach Bruce Arians is one of the few people who see Ndamukong Suh for what he really is: a disruptive presence in the middle of the defensive line, and one that "plays football the way the game's supposed to be played." Lions' insider Mike Mady provides analysis on the Suh enigma, and his future in Detroit.

Owen Daniels Says Lions DT Ndamukong Suh’s Kick Of Matt Schaub ‘Wasn’t Unintentional’

Houston Texans tight end Owen Daniels dropped by “NFL AM” Friday morning to discuss his team’s 10-1 start. Ndamukong Suh is starting to understand the gravity of his situation. Texans Headed Back To Playoffs After Topping Titans 24-10

Matt Schaub completed 21-of-35 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Houston Texans to a 24-10 win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. The Texans' defense forced three interceptions and recovered three fumbles, while Arian Foster carried the ball 14 times for 38 yards and a touchdown and Lestar Jean had a 54-yard touchdown reception for Houston (11-1), which...

Warren Sapp rips Ndamukong Suh, says he is wasting his talent

Warren Sapp is not a fan of Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. The former pass-rushing specialist made that clear once again during an appearance on “The Jim Rome Show” on Thursday, when he basically said Suh cannot seem to get a grip on the mental aspect of the game of football. “When I watch him after a Sunday, when I sit down and watch the tape, get inside of...

Warren Sapp Blasts Ndamukong Suh For Lacking Awareness, Not Evolving

Warren Sapp, one of the greatest pass-rushing defensive tackles of all-time, has long been critical of Detroit Lions' Ndamukong Suh. In January, Sapp said Suh needed to look in the mirror and reevaluate his game. On Thursday, the four-time All-Pro joined 'The Jim Rome Show' and continued his scathing assessment of Suh's recent play. "When I watch him after...
