Jim Harbaugh announced today that Colin Kaepernick will start this week against the St Louis Rams. Harbaugh said that Colin, I believe has the hot hand and we’ll go with Colin. Of course he finished that sentence with, ‘and we’ll go with Alex. Both our guys.’
This really shouldn’t come as a surprise, the offense under Kaepernick just seems much more explosive. Regardless of Kaepernick and Smith posting somewhat the same numbers over Kaepernick’s last two starts, it just feels different under Kaepernick. The main area being 3rd down. Watching the Saints game I didn’t have the feeling that the punting team would be out when the 49ers were forced into 3rd and long situations.
What does this mean for Alex Smith? Most likely he has played his last game as a 49er, barring an injury to Kaepernick. I know after 7 years I’m sure fans thought this day would never come…

Jim Harbaugh announces 49ers starting QB: Kaepernick.
— Matt Maiocco (@MaioccoCSN) November 28, 2012
From the begining I’ve believe Kaepernick gives the 49ers the best chance to win, so I believe this is the best move for them.

Colin Kaepernick’s parents defend him against criticism over tattoos
Colin Kaepernick has officially been given the chance to become the next face of the San Francisco 49ers, and so far he has answered the call. There has been little to criticize Kaepernick for in his first two NFL starts, both of which were convincing wins. While it would be difficult to criticize him for his play, one writer felt the need to bash him for something totally unrelated...
Colin Kaepernick “Unbeated” In 1st 2 Career Starts, According To ESPN
Thanks to @hansrasmussen for watching ESPN closely for this solid grammatical error. Actually, “unbeated” does work in that graphic. Kaepernick is 2-0 and unbeated. He’s also non-defeated. Look at the new 49ers QB’s remaining five games; looks like 4-1 or 3-2 at worst. Mr. Unbeated should be just fine.

Signs point to Colin Kaepernick remaining the 49ers’ starter
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter (via Evan Silva), there are people around the NFL that believe the San Francisco 49ers will stick with Colin Kaepernick as their starting quarterback and not go back to Alex Smith.
Kaepernick was on a conference call yesterday with the St. Louis media. That could be a sign that he’ll be starting this week.
I really believe Kaepernick is more...
After another big win, 49ers QBs still in limbo
Jim Harbaugh has watched each of his two quarterbacks lead the San Francisco 49ers to big wins in hostile, road environments - Alex Smith in the season opener at Green Bay's Lambeau Field back in September, and Colin Kaepernick on Sunday at the New Orleans Superdome.
Which one gets the ball on Sunday at St. Louis? Harbaugh is still mum on that, though he did say Monday he will...
San Francisco 49ers will announce starting quarterback this week
Last week, San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh declined to announce the team’s starting quarterback prior to their game against the New Orleans Saints. Harbaugh cited that he didn’t want to give the other team a competitive edge in game planning. This week however, Harbaugh has had a change of heart and has told reporters that he will formally announce the Niners starting...
49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh Likely To Announce Starting QB On Wednesday
In todays installment of As the Quarterback Turns, 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh went out of his way to speak fondly of Alex Smith.
Harbaugh, in his weekly Monday news conference, said he probably will announce Sundays starter against St. Louis on Wednesday because he doesnt want his players to field a barrage of Whos the QB? questions all week, as they did last week...
Harbaugh, 49ers juggling more than just quarterbacks?
In the NFL it’s often said that success is contagious. Once a franchise taps into a winning formula, it’s used until the well runs dry. This is the case for the San Francisco 49ers and head coach Jim Harbaugh in 2012.
As everyone knows quarterback Alex Smith has seemingly been replaced as the Niners starting signal caller by the more elusive Colin Kaepernick. In doing so...

Straight Outta Stockton - Week 12
This week's Straight Outta Stockton could easily be renamed Straight Outta Aikman as the lead NFL on Fox analyst had a rough time during yesterday's Saints-49ers game. While a few of those are noted below, I have to pay tribute to the work Aikman is doing to the English language. Multiple times during Sunday's telecast, Aikman said "I don't disagree"...

Smith part of 49ers QB controversy long before Kaepernick
Just as he was playing possibly the of his eight-year career, 49ers quarterback Alex Smith saw it all unravel in the last three weeks after a concussion sidelined him on Nov. 11 and second-year pro Colin Kaepernick stepped in. Now healthy, Smith finally spoke up Thursday, a day after head coach Jim Harbaugh named Kaepernick the starter for Sunday's game in St. Louis and, it...
49ers’ Vernon Davis: ‘Alex Is Still the Man’
Clearly, the 49ers have found something in changing quarterback at 6-2-1 on the season. With Colin Kaepernick at the helm, they are now 2-0 and now among the favorites to win the Super Bowl. However, not everyone agrees. Vernon Davis told reporters this after Sunday’s gritty win over the Saints on the road. “It’s difficult, [...]
