Chadhenne1
Going into the start of his senior season Chad Henne was said by many draft experts to be the 6th best quarterback in the draft behind the likes of Matt Ryan, Brian Brohm, Andre Woodson,Colt Brennan and John David Booty. Well after the last month Henne has had scouts aren't saying that anymore. Henne's 2008 started off with a great performance against Florida in the Capital One Bowl. In that game Henne went 25 of 39 for 373 yards along with 3 touchdowns. Not to mention while Henne did that, Woodson didn't look sharp against a short handed FSU defense and Colt Brennan did terrible in his game as well against Georgia as he took more hits than Bob Marley. Now it's a few weeks later at the Senior Bowl and Henne shines again. Henne went 5 of 9 for 64 yards and 2 touchdowns and was the North MVP. Woodson on the other hand took a safety and fumbled but he did throw a touchdown. Brennan's bad luck continues though as he went 2 of 6 for 29 yards and a pick. He was...

  • One of those TDs was really under-thrown. That first one (Hawkins). That was Henne, right? It was the first TD of the game. I turned it on right as Hawkins made the nice catch. I didn't see who threw it.
  • Yeah it was Henne who threw that pass
  • PS: I agree with you 100% re: Woodson.
  • i heard that mike martz kind of forced his own system on brennan and woodson. ainge was ok because he runs a pro-style offense, but martz system requires you do get rid of the ball quickly and time deep routes very well. it's something that's hard to learn in a week, especially if you're used to shorter passes, which is brennan's bread and butter. the martz offense emphasized those guys' weaknesses.

i'm not saying that makes them really good prospects, though.
  • Really nice point - I do think it is what makes them good prospects though. I'd want to see a prospect do well with a pro-style offense and pick up timings quickly. It's what you are going to need to do when stepping into the pros.
  • Henne has benefitted from the fact that he played in more of a drop-back, pro-style offense. It will be interesting to watch how the QB crop will develop in the years to come as more and more teams (Michigan being a prime example) migrate to the spread offense with mobile QB's. Great for point scoring in college but not necessarily at the next level. (see Alex Smith)

  • I agree, I feel like more recruits should be considering this during their recruitment. Do you want to be a hero in college, or do you want to be making the big money in the pros?
  • Henne's not going to slip into round 4 like Brady, but I also don't think he's a 1st round pick as well. I like the kid, I wathched play H.S. ball and two games vs Penn State. I think he's a great game manager like Brady, but his skills just aren't completely there for first round pickins. To be honest with you, I don't think anyone this year is a true first rounder. Matt Ryan would have gone in the 3rd round last year. Now he's a top ten... a desperation pick for Miami, Houston, KC, or someone like that. I think the only kid from Michigan going first round will be the Left Tackle...
  • Manningham is projected by many to go first round.
If Henne drops past the first round it could be due to the fact that the latter part of the round is filled with playoff teams; few of which would go QB that early.
  • I agree Manningham will probably go in between picks 17 and 28. A team can't have enough good receivers. Most mocks have him going to the Jaguars which I don't see happening.
