FLOWERY BRANCH – Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey and quarterback Matt Ryan, in their quest for more explosive plays, have not utilized the screen pass very often this season.
The Falcons have completed 14 of 16 screen passes for 62 yards, according to ESPN Stats and Information. Here’s a blog from our good buddy Pat Yasinskas on the Falcons and their screen pass prowess.
According to those stats, the only starting quarterbacks with fewer screen passes thrown are Minnesota’s Christian Ponder (15) , Kevin Kolb ( 14) and Kansas City’s Matt Cassel (14). Ponder didn’t open the season as a starter and Kolb and Cassel have missed time because of injuries.
