Heckert Doubts New Age Tight Ends Can Catch And Block

Posted February 15, 2009 on Sports_dosage's Blog:

It seems day by day that tight end LJ Smith will not be an Eagles by the time Feb.27 comes around. Heckert made it clear the team will be looking for a tight end in this years draft however he stated " I'm looking at our board right now, and there are four that probably will go in the first four rounds that don't even line up on the line of scrimmage at all," he said. "With all of the spread offenses in college, to find a guy who can do both things is almost impossible." So now one has to wonder if the tight ends in this years draft class cannot catch and block, does that mean the Eagles go out and make a trade to bring a stud TE? As we all remember last season the Cheifs dangled future hall of fame tight end Tony Gonzalez and the Eagles were one of the teams that were interested in his Gonzalez's services. Do not be shocked if the Andy and company feel that there is no bright future sen in these tight ends in this years draft class and make a move to get Gonzo or possibly Kellen Winslow; a tight end who has been upset at the Browns orginization and has made some noise last season.
