Here's why new Chiefs LT Kingsley Suamataia might be ready to start quicker than you think
Rob Gray-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs have done it again - they have gotten multiple steals in the NFL draft; this time, it was in the second and fourth rounds. With their fourth-round pick, they took safety Jaden Hicks from Washington State, who is a guy that can play really anywhere.

The Chiefs have done this for so many years now, and they did it in the second round, grabbing Kingsley Suamataia, the offensive tackle from BYU, who was projected by many to be a first-round pick. Had the Chiefs not gone with a wide receiver in the first round, you can make a case they would have gone after him there.

But they stayed put and grabbed one of the more physical guys in the draft at his position with a huge upside, as the Chiefs try to build up the trenches. Not to mention, the Andy Reid - BYU connection is there as well. While a lot of draft experts and teams seem to think Suamataia could be a project piece, as his game is a bit raw, he has one thing working for him in terms of being ready to potentially start immediately.

Suamataia is a player with a rich family background when it comes to football.

"Right now, Penei is up in Detroit. Shout out to Penei; he is making big moves right now," Suamataia said. Cousin Noah is at the Chicago Bears, and then I have Nephi, who is at the Saints, and then Puca, who is at the Rams. But shoot, I have a bunch of family members who played in the league. My uncle, my grandpa... It runs in the bloodline. It runs deep. So grateful and blessed to be the next one up right now."

Penei Sewell, the best offensive tackle in the league, is his cousin, and Puca Nakua, the best rookie in the league last year who broke records, is also his cousin. So, he has been around the game professionally and in a setting for some time. Not to mention, he and Nakua played together in college. So, he knows what it takes to be a pro.

His family members who were in the league before have helped him, too. So it's fair to say that this guy is ready. He's ready to show the world and 31 other teams who passed on him that he's ready. Having the bloodline and family background he does, will certainly help.
