In 2008, Vikings starting guard Anthony Herrera ended his season by having shoulder surgery. The following season, the guard arguably played the worst football of his career.
In 2010, and two years removed from his surgery, Herrera seeming got some of his mojo back and had improved over last season. He wasn’t able to stay healthy, however, and ended up going on injured reserve in November because of a torn ACL.
Herrera had surgery but it is now reported that he will also undergo surgery on his triceps.
In April of 2008, the Caribbean born Herrera got an impromptu ride from Brad Childress from the practice facility to the ceremony in which he was becoming a United States citizen. If you haven’t heard this story before, you still won’t be surprised to learn that they got lost on the way and Childress produced one of my favorite quotes of all time.
“We were sitting there when I decided to plug the directions into my Navigator,” Childress said at the time.
Childress is now gone. So are the offensive line coaches. The Vikings offensive coordinator could soon follow them out the door. Combine all that with the fact that Herrera has been oft-injured and playing inconsistently over the last two seasons, and one has to wonder if he is yet another Vikings starter that will find his way to free agency this offseason.
