Mike Klis of the Denver Post writes that barring an injury, it’s “highly unlikely” that both Willis McGahee and Knowshon Moreno will make the Broncos 53-man roster. Denver has drafted RBs Montee Ball and Ronnie Hillman in back-to-back seasons, using a second and third-round pick on them respectively. Klis adds that the Broncos ideal scenario would be for Ball and Hillman to operate as their “one-two running punch” this season. McGahee, 31, is set to make $2.5 million for the upcoming season and comes with much more mileage. Moreno, on the other hand, is still only 26-years-old and will make only $1.7 million in 2013, but the downside with him is that his skill set and size is closer to Ball and Hillman. Conversely, McGahee is a bigger back that’s capable of being effective in the passing game and could see carries around the goal line if needed. In recent years, the older running back has been the one to get cut loose, but there’s a chance that McGahee’s skill set and size, paired with multiple disappointing seasons from Moreno, could be enough to convince the Broncos to keep him around for another season.
