The Denver Broncos and quarterback Peyton Manning will be relieved—or, in Manning’s case, disappointed—to know that Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher has been ruled out for the team’s preseason opener Thursday evening in Chicago. Urlacher has missed six consecutive training camp practices.

Sidelined with a sore knee, Urlacher has been excused from practices by Chicago for “personal reasons,” according to NFP.  The Bears remain confident that Urlacher will be back in time for the regular season.

Second-year linebacker Dom DeCicco is listed as Urlacher’s backup on the Bear’s depth chart and may start on Thursday.  DeCicco played in sixteen games and recorded twelve tackles during his rookie season in 2011.

Meanwhile, Broncos’ rookie running back Ronnie Hillman, who is recovering from a hamstring injury, practiced on Tuesday and may be able to play on Thursday, according to ESPN’s Cecil Lammey.  Hillman, who was drafted 67th overall by the Broncos in April, is currently listed as the 3rd RB on Denver’s depth chart.

The Broncos will hold practice on Wednesday morning before flying to Chicago for their upcoming preseason game.  Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday evening. Denver has a 4-3 all-time record against the Bears in the preseason.

If Hillman is able to play (and even if he doesn’t), the Broncos’ running back situation will be one to keep a close eye on.  At least three backs (Knowshon Moreno, Lance Ball and Jeremiah Johnson) will be competing for one spot behind Willis McGahee and Hillman.

Manning makes his Denver debut at Chicago

Peyton Manning is about to face his first pass rush in 579 days. The four-time MVP makes his Denver Broncos debut in the preseason opener at Chicago on Thursday. If he has an extra pep in his step or anticipates a larger than usual adrenaline rush against the Bears, he's not showing it. He insists it's simply the next steppingstone in his comeback in Denver after missing...

Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher misses multiple practices due to knee injury.

Team leader/MLB Brian Urlacher has made a bit of news here and there thanks to his relationship with actress/model Jenny McCarthy. What has flown quietly passed most is that Urlacher is still dealing with problems after he sprained ligaments in his left knee during the last week of the 2011 regular season. Please click the link below to read this story and to watch a new interview...

Briggs, Roach are top MLB options without Urlacher

Middle linebacker Brian Urlacher was held out of practice Sunday for the fourth straight day, but the Bears are simply being cautious with a veteran to whom preseason participation isn't a priority. "His knee is still a little sore," coach Lovie Smith said. "Hopefully, we'll be able to get him back out here before long. But we'll take our time with Brian...

Manning uneven in first appearance with Broncos

Peyton Manning's first appearance with the Denver Broncos was a brief one. Manning played one possession in the preseason opener against the Chicago Bears on Thursday and got intercepted near the end zone. In his first appearance since the Pro Bowl following the 2010 season while with Indianapolis, Manning completed 4 of 7 passes for 44 yards. On the game's first play...

Brian Urlacher And Jenny McCarthy: Chicagoland Celebrity Dating Jinx?

When I first heard that Bears’ LB Brian Urlacher was dating Jenny McCarthy -Playboy's Playmate of the Year (1993), I immediately went to the biggest Bears fan I know, my friend Bryan, to find out his opinion. As a lifelong fan, and quite frankly having a lil’ bit of a football man crush on Urlacher (see photo below taken in his man cave), I knew my friend would have some...

NFL Preseason Week 1 Fantasy Football Preview

How Will Peyton Manning do tonight in his Broncos’ debut? Ah yes, the preseason is officially here. I know there was the Hall of Fame game just a few days ago but for some reason that game has always had a bit of a different feel to it but tonight I can feel the excitement in the air as we look forward to seeing the likes of Peyton Manning taking the field for the first...

Denver Broncos Preseason Scrimmage Draws Record Crowd

Tebow mania cannot hold a candle to Manning mania. The evidence? Saturday afternoon, 41,304 fans packed the lower levels of Sports Authority Field at Mile High to watch the Broncos' annual preseason scrimmage. John Elway Says Peyton Manning Needs Two More Rings to Be the Best Ever

I think John Elway is subliminally saying that Manning isn’t better than him until he gets two more rings. I see you John you aren’t fooling me. Trying to motivate the older Manning. In Elway’s opinion, if Manning were to close out his career by winning two Super Bowls as the Broncos’ quarterback — the same way Elway closed out his own Hall of Fame career — that would...

Elway: Peyton has to win 2 more Super Bowls to be the best ever

I have always been a big John Elway fan. I felt, even before he won two Super Bowls in his last two seasons in the NFL, that he was one of the greatest ever. I still feel that he’s top five. The rings were just extra on a brilliant career. He didn’t need them. Unfortunately, [...]

Bruce Arians Likes What He Sees from Young Indianapolis Colts Offense

Bruce Arians knows quarterbacks. He was Peyton Manning's first quarterback coach in Indianapolis, groomed Tim Couch in Cleveland before Couch was injured and turned a raw Ben Roethlisberger into a two time Super Bowl winner. Now Arians has a new challenge in grooming another first round quarterback in Andrew Luck. With the Colts made over roster, the task before Arians will...

5 Reasons the Denver Broncos Will Miss the Playoffs in 2012

The Denver Broncos shocked the world by making the playoffs, and even winning a playoff game, last season. This year though, they’ll be lucky to finish at 8-8.
