Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver and current NBC Sports analyst Hines Ward doesn’t believe the NFL is ready for an openly gay player. “I don’t think football is ready, there’s too many guys in the locker room and, you know, guys play around too much,” Ward told Erik Kuselias earlier today on NBC Sports Radio, via ProFootballTalk.com. I honestly don’t think any sports league will ever really be “ready” for a gay player to come out of the closet.  Someone will come out sooner or later in the NFL and people will deal with it when that time comes.     Need NFL Tickets?

With Mike Wallace now gone via free agency to the Miami Dolphins, Sanders was asked to talk about his role in the Steelers...

Keeping Realistic Expectations for Pittsburgh Steelers Draft Picks Can be Tough

The NFL Draft could be compared to Christmas for football fans. It’s like getting new toys and presents that you will be able to watch on Sundays. Every year we see the Pittsburgh Steelers draft new players and immediately the team has new starters, future hall of famers, and the offensive or defensive rookie of year. Well, at least if you listened to all of the draft grades, fan...

Offseason Roster Moves & Their Impact On The Steelers 2013 Draft

Christopher DiMarino Before I get into my thoughts on the 2013 draft, I want to review the players that were signed this offseason. Looking at the completed picture, I can see how the moves in free agency directly led to what positions were addressed in the draft. I am actually very impressed with the  job that the Pittsburgh Steelers did in free agency for a normally dormant free...

Hopefully Charlie Batch is Wrong or the Pittsburgh Steelers may be Truly Rebuilding in Two Years

Heading into the 2013 NFL Draft the Pittsburgh Steelers were expected to take a project quarterback to start grooming as a back-up and potential future starter. However, when they drafted Oklahoma’s Landry Jones in the fourth round of the draft it was much higher in the draft than most expected for them to target a quarterback. Immediately afterward fans were wondering why they...

Le’Veon Bell May Give the Steelers a Better Version of Jonathan Dwyer

With their first pick on the second day of the 2013 NFL Draft the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Michigan State running back Le’Veon Bell. Then on the third day of the draft there were rumors that the Steelers were shopping one of their running backs for a trade and that player was rumored to be Jonathan Dwyer. However, an attempt to trade one of their running backs failed and...

How Can the Steelers Keep Making Signings When They Have “No” Cap Space?

A fan asked me how the Pittsburgh Steelers can keep making signings when they have very little cap space left. For instance the Steelers signed Former-Pitt running back Larod Stephens-Howling, who played with Todd Haley in Arizona, to a contract with a $620,000 cap hit when they only had about $650,000 in cap space. Following that move they drafted nine players, signed 15 undrafted...

Steelers won’t hand Jarvis Jones a starting spot

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that rookie linebacker Jarvis Jones won’t automatically start right away.  Veteran Jason Worilds will compete with him. “I think it’s a daunting task for rookies to start in any system and play and perform well,” said Tomlin. “Obviously it is difficult when you have established veteran players...

Steelers rumors: Landry Jones as Ben Roethlisberger’s eventual replacement?

The Pittsburgh Steelers selected quarterback Landry Jones in the fourth round of last weekend’s NFL Draft. The pick likely indicates that veteran backup Charlie Batch no longer has a roster spot with the team, but he believes it could mean more. Batch told Ron Cook of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that Jones could be the Steelers’ heir apparent behind starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger...

Charlie Batch: Can we develop Landry Jones to be the starter?

(Credit: NBC Sports) The Pittsburgh Steelers had an excellent 2013 NFL Draft. Three of their picks, LB Jarvis Jones, RB LeVeon Bell, and WR Markus Wheaton will be expected to come right in and produce, at least situationally. In the fourth round, the Steelers selected QB Landry Jones. Jones was highly regarded after his 2011 season at Oklahoma, then had a down 2012 season.  Well...

Hines Ward: Football is not ready for an openly gay player

The NBA became the first of the four major American team sports to have an openly gay player on Monday with Jason Collins’ decision to come out. Now, the question on the minds of many people is whether or not any of the other three sports will follow. Will Collins’ announcement inspire others to come forward and in hopes of gaining acceptance for who they are? Former Pittsburgh...

Steelers LB Sean Spence’s Career Could Be Coming To An End

Steelers LBs coach Keith Butler mentioned that it would be “miraculous” if last year’s third-round pick Sean Spence was able to continue his career in the NFL, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Spence, 22, suffered a terrible knee injury last season. He torn both his ACL and LCL while dislocating the knee, so there are some legitimate questions as to whether or not he’ll...

Pittsburgh Steelers Waive WR Bert Reed

The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted two wide receivers last week, Markus Wheaton and Justin Brown, and needed to make some room for the new talent. The odd man out is Bert Reed who was waived today. Reed was a second-year undrafted free agent who played at Florida State. Getting cut this early is not a great sign.   The post Pittsburgh Steelers Waive WR Bert Reed appeared first on...

Winston Justice visiting Steelers, Browns

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, free agent offensive lineman Winston Justice will be visiting with both the Browns and Steelers. Former Colts and Eagles OT Winston Justice is visiting the Steelers today and is scheduled to go to Cleveland on Wednesday. — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) April 29, 2013 Justice played for the Colts in 2012 after being traded to Indianapolis last...
