Santonio Holmes made roughly the same amount of noise in his press conference Thursday as he likely will on the field on Sunday. Rex Ryan suggested Thursday that Holmes will probably miss Sunday’s matchup against the Steelers while the wide receiver was evasive with the media a week after saying “I can’t throw it to myself and catch it otherwise I would.” “The fact he didn’t practice today I don’t know if you want to say it doesn’t look good or whatever” Ryan said of his top wide receiver. In Rex-speak that’s pretty conclusive. Holmes likely sitting against his former team isn’t a major surprise but it would be the second consecutive game he would miss after injuring his hamstring in Week 4 against the Titans. “I’d like him out there practicing right now because I always said I like when he plays there’s no doubt” Ryan said. Holmes didn’t offer much of a timetable for a return. “Whenever the trainers put me back on the field” Holmes said. Asked how he felt exactly Holmes added “I feel like one day at a time right now that’s all I can take it.” The wide receiver has been vague about injuries this season and even seemed to downplay his recovery from a Lisfranc foot injury during the preseason. But Holmes was downright gregarious when discussing his hamstring in comparison to any discussion over his displeasure about how his comments last week were construed by the media. Holmes clearly expressed some discontent on Twitter last week over the attention his “I can’t throw it to myself and catch it” statement from the previous week. But when asked about it Thursday the wide receiver wouldn’t respond.
