Found March 15, 2012 on Waiting For Next Year:

Mike Holmgren and Tom Heckert spoke with season ticket holders earlier today on a conference call (which is now available to listen to on the team’s website) about free agency and the upcoming draft. In that call, Holmgren addressed the Rams trade with Washington and why the Browns didn’t make the move.

“What we offered for the pick was every bit the offer that was chosen. “There are reasons… …why it didn’t happen. There’s a very close relationship between the people that were involved with getting the deal done and the people who eventually got it done.” “I’m not sure if any offer that we made at the end of the day was going to be quite good enough.” “We were very aggressive and it didn’t work.”

Holmgren would not go into specifics about what the Browns offered. He did say that no statement or report he has seen yet has been accurate.

Browns release veteran G Eric Steinbach

The Cleveland Browns have released guard Eric Steinbach, who missed last season following back surgery. Steinbach underwent an operation to fix a back disc in August and sat out his fifth season with Cleveland. He was scheduled to make $6 million in 2012. His release will give the Browns more room under the salary cap. They opened free agency about $17 million under the cap. The...

Browns sign free-agent DE Rucker to a contract

Frostee Rucker may be switching teams, but he's not leaving the AFC North. The Cleveland Browns signed the free-agent defensive end to a contract, but did not disclose the terms. Rucker played his first five NFL seasons with the rival Cincinnati Bengals. "Frostee is a player that we targeted in free agency, and we couldn't be happier that he chose to become a member...

Browns' fans feel a draft, and shiver

If there's one thing Browns' fans have learned during this free agency period, it's that you can't call GM Tom Heckert a liar. Heckert said last week that the franchise would not make a big splash in the market. The NFL's high-priced free agent bazaar opened on Tuesday at 4 p.m., and true to their word, the Browns weren't waiting to rush inside with checkbook...

Browns Need To Stay The Course….(And Tank 2012)

What I am going to say right now will not a popular sentiment at all in this town. But the reality of the situation is, I want what is best for the organization LONG TERM. So stay with me here. Between local sports talk radio, Twitter, newspapers, and blogs, all of the talk in Cleveland has centered around the Browns not doing anything in Free agency (other than the signing of ...

Tired of hearing the Redskins overpaid for RG3 and Pierre Garcon? Read this.

Mike Holmgren told me everything I need to know about the Washington Redskins trade-up for the Rams' slot in the 2012 NFL Draft. Why else would the president of the Cleveland Browns have to explain to season ticket holders that he lost the bid to trade up for the rights to Robert Griffin III? "I'm not going to tell you exactly what we offered, but I will say what we...

Hillis gone to Chiefs, good riddance

Hillis has run for greener pastures One year ago at this time, I would have said there was a .005% chance of me ever writing the headline (and certainly not in one year’s time), “Hillis gone to Chiefs, good riddance.”  Yet, here we are on the eve of March Madness, and that thought is the first and only thing that comes to mind upon reading Espn’s report that Hillis agreed...
