The beginning of this season saw the Atlanta Falcons being chosen by many football analysts to be one of the few front runners to represent the NFC in this years Super Bowl.  Many believed that the Falcons, with Matt Ryan and his bevy of weapons, and the offensive game planning of Mike Mularkey who was considered as one of the best coordinators in the league, would be able to score almost at will.  But as Falcons fans saw throughout  the season, this was just not the case. And now that the season ended in such deplorable fashion, many people were wondering what moves if any were going to be made. The two biggest moves that people began talking about were the Offensive and Defensive coordinator positions.  Almost immediately after the Falcons lost to the Giants in the first round of the playoffs, defensive coordinator Brian Van Gorder left the Falcons and took the same position for the Auburn Tigers.  As a Falcons fan, I was never impressed with the work Van Gorder did with our defen...

Real Falcons ‘fans’ need to thank Coach Mularkey

FLOWERY BRANCH – Real Falcons ‘fans’ need to step up and send thank you cards to new Jacksonville coach Mike Mularkey. What he was able to achieve in his four years of unprecedented success in franchise history should be recognized. He doesn’t deserve having some rocks thrown at him on his way out of town. Some of you, before disrespecting Mularkey, need to reflect and look...

Blogging Dirty Defensive Coord. & Divisional Round

Free Agency for the Falcons does not begin until March 13, and my colleague Jamie Kelly has done a great job covering our offensive and defensive coordinator situation for us. As a result, there is not a whole lot of breaking news out of Falcon land. I figured I would cover the previews of the Divisional Round of the playoffs. But first I thought I would like to share my thoughts...

Patriot castoff James Sanders still feels a connection with his old team

Caught up with old friend James Sanders last week, after the Falcons were eliminated by the Giants in the wild card round. The former Patriots safety was the subject of the lead to my NFL Notes today. Sanders had made the only memorable play for Atlanta in their game with the Giants, when he sacked Eli Manning in the endzone for a safety to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead. After that...

Jaguars' Coaching Staff Taking Shape

A week ago, the Jacksonville Jaguars were in a serious state of flux. They had no head coach, no offensive coordinator, their star defensive coordinator, Mel Tucker, was looking elsewhere for work, and their entire coaching staff was without contracts.
