The Houston Texans have completed at lot of "firsts" for their franchise in the year 2011. From a rushing champion, to a top defense, to hosting a playoff game, these are the top five stories of the year for the Texans:
5. Peyton Manning’s Injury
Peyton Manning’s neck injury, which has so far kept him from playing in a single game this regular season, has definitely helped the Texans 2011 regular season bid for the division title. The Colts, with Manning, had won the division seven times out of the nine seasons since the Texans joined the NFL. Manning has also posted a career record of 16-2 against the Texans. So the Texans, dominated by Manning throughout their franchise history, have no doubt benefited this season from the injury to Manning.
4. Arian Foster Wins Rushing Crown
On January 2nd, 2011, the last game of the 2010 regular season, the Texans hosted their division-rivals, the Jacksonville Jaguars. In this game, running back Arian Foster ran for 180 yards on 3...

Can you say awwwwwkward? In a column at Yahoo! Sports, Jason Cole says Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck is expected to choose Peyton Manning‘s agents to represent him. Luck is expected to be the top pick in the draft, although some teams reportedly prefer Robert Griffin III. We’ve already heard that Peyton Manning may try to force a trade if the team drafts Luck, so this makes...
Bill Barnwell has surveyed the land and come up with a list of possible landing spots for Peyton Manning. In his eyes, Classic Colt Jim Harbaugh would be a perfect match for Peyton Manning:
If Jim Harbaugh can't get Andrew Luck, wouldn't this be the next best thing? With Harbaugh as coach, that young offensive line percolating, a dominant defense, and the NFC West on the...
The Colts have been reluctant to tell anyone much about Peyton Manning. We know now that he will not practice with the team but rather continue to throw in post-practice rehab sessions:
“He’s also concerned about not taking any reps away from Dan (Orlovsky) or Curtis (Painter) in terms of week’s preparation,” Caldwell said. “He’s going to focus in more of just the...
Peyton Manning will not participate in the Colts' team practices the rest of the season.
INACTIVES QB Peyton Manning - Manning has been getting some good news lately, but still not ready to take the field. (Neck) TE Dallas Clark - Clark suffered a stinger and had to be replaced by Jacob Tamme on the Colt’s final drive last week. He will be out this week as a result (Neck) [...]

Colts vice chairman Bill Polian says Peyton Manning will not play in the final two games, but the franchise quarterback did take snaps from center Jeff Saturday this week.
The Indianapolis Colts finally won without Peyton Manning. It just took 14 games and three quarterbacks to get there. Dan Orlovsky threw one touchdown pass, a key block on an 80-yard TD run and the Colts defense held Chris Johnson to 55 yards rushing, to beat Tennessee 27-13 and avoid becoming the second 0-16 team in league history.
Many have asked me to respond to Bill Barnwell's piece in Grantland about the Colts. Most of it has been addressed on this site before, but I wanted to give a cliff-notes style response to his specific arguments.
Barnwell is one of the best NFL writers around, and one of my absolute favorites. This was not his best work, however.
ARGUMENT #1: The Colts collapse began in April...
Did Sunday cost the New York Giants the playoffs?
With the Dallas Cowboys winning Saturday, the G-Men had to keep pace. Fortunately the Giants were playing a weak 4-9 Redskin team…or not. The Giants only put up 10 and the Skins threw up 23. Even with the Giants having the leading passer (Eli Manning, 257 yards) and the leading rusher (Ahmad Bradshaw, 58 yards); they still tanked...
