TEAMS: Houston Texans, Carolina Panthers, Minnesota Vikings
After seven excruciating long months, the Houston Texans finally take the field again in tonight’s preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers. But as many know, tonight doesn’t actually count for anything, so a full game preview is rather silly. Neither team is game planning or doing any in-game scouting, rather working on aspects of the team that need improvement. Most importantly, THE FINAL SCORE DOESN’T MATTER. The wins and losses of tonight’s game will occur on an individual basis as players fight for roster spots and regular season play time. Instead, lets lay out the game tonight and what fans should be looking for out of the starters and backups.
First, the starters on both offense and defense will only play about 12-15 snaps according to team sources. This should roughly take the starters to the near end of the first quarter, and then they’ll be done for the night. The Texans already know what they have from many of their starters, so avoiding injury takes top prior...

Matt Schaub declared the rust gone after his first action in nine months.
Schaub led one scoring drive and threw an interception in his first game since breaking his right foot last season, and the Houston Texans beat the Carolina Panthers 26-13 on Saturday night in the preseason opener for both teams.
Schaub completed three passes for 52 yards on Houston's opening drive, including...
Will Carolina Panthers’ defense let Cam down again?
Last season, Cam Newton impressed everyone in the NFL with his amazing record setting rookie season with the Carolina Panthers. Cam Newton never once let up and showed game after game that he truly was the real deal. Even critics couldn’t deny that Cam proved them wrong as most expected Cam to be a bust [...]
Panthers' Keiser, Bell proof preseason does matter
Go ahead, you try telling Carolina's Byron Bell and Thomas Keiser the NFL preseason doesn't matter.
They know better.
Bell and Keiser arrived at Panthers training camp last summer as undrafted rookies and heavy underdogs to make the 53-man roster. Both overcome those odds after strong performances in the preseason.
Bell made the opening-day roster and started 12 games...
Panthers Defensive End Thomas Keiser Likes to Eat Chia Seeds
There have been many odd rituals performed by athletes. However, this may be the oddest I have ever seen. As defensive Thomas Keiser tells the Carolina Panthers official website, the second-year pro likes to consume Chia seeds in order to stay hydrated.Chi-chi-chia!We've probably heard the word "Chia" before on those popular commercials on television that shows the...
Texans NT Shaun Cody Suffers Back Disk Injury, Needs Further Evaluation
The only notable injury the Texans suffered in their 26-13 preseason victory at Carolina involved nose tackle Shaun Cody. Cody suffered a back injury that involved one of his disks, according to coach Gary Kubiak. Cody received an epidural to get some relief for the pain in his back. Its a disk issue, Kubiak said at his Sunday news conference. Its going to be evaluated...
Carolina Panthers 2012 Season Preview
I may have been one of the harshest Cam Newton critics coming into last season. I knew he had talent, it just wasn’t conventional talent that typically translated to immediate NFL success, and I am not afraid to admit when I am wrong.
He had a historically good rookie season, putting up gaudy statistics, and winning over skeptics from all over the vast sea of haters known as...
Carolina Panthers extend RB Jonathan Stewart for five years
The Carolina Panthers announced this evening that they have extended the contract of RB Jonathan Stewart. The terms of the five year extension are a reported deal worth $36.5 million with $22 million guaranteed. The Panthers have now handed out over $40 million in guaranteed money in the last two seasons to running backs. Last season, the Panthers give fellow running back DeAngelo...
Re-signing OT Duane Brown A High Priority For Texans
Since the Texans don't negotiate with players in season, the clock is ticking if they hope to lock up one of their prized assets whose contract expires at the end of 2012. Though QB Matt Schaub falls under that category, we hear OLT Duane Brown and OLB Connor Barwin, both coming off career years in which they started 16 games, head the list. After struggling to fill the left...
Gary Kubiak Expects Texans WR Andre Johnson To Be Active Against 49ers
Last nights game led to plenty of talk about how the Texans defense was ahead of its offense right now but a big part of it involved the personnel. You didnt see much of running back Arian Foster, and receiver Andre Johnson wasnt active. That is expected to change this weekend against the San Francisco 49ers. Its Sunday, but yeah, he should play, Kubiak said of Johnson...
Panthers give RB Stewart 5-year extension
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- The Panthers have reached a five-year contract extension with running back Jonathan Stewart.
Financial terms of the deal weren't immediately available.
Panthers general manager Marty Hurney says the team is "thrilled" to keep Stewart around to pair with fellow running back DeAngelo Williams, who received a five-year contract last year, and...
A quarterback’s body language speaks louder than words
Actions speak louder than words and in Cam Newton’s case his body language during the fourth quarter of games speaks volumes. So much so that two of his teammates felt the need to talk to him about it last season. Newton speaking to the media a few days after a win against the Houston Texans [...]
Panthers give RB Stewart a five-year extension
The Carolina Panthers guaranteed their one-two punch at running back would stay intact by signing Jonathan Stewart to a five-year contract extension Saturday. The deal, which runs through 2017, is worth between $36.5 million and $42.5 million, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported. Stewart is guaranteed $22.5 million, per Schefter's source. Do You Believe This Guy Drinks Water With Chia Pet Seeds To Stay Hydrated?
Alright, so there are basically two ways this thing works out. Carolina Panthers Defensive End Thomas Keiser is either the biggest moron of all time or this story is total ********.
From Panthers.com Staff Writer Max Henson:
“People ask me all the time if it’s the same stuff that’s in Chia Pets. It is,” Keiser said. “I’ll have probably two or three tablespoons in somewhere...
