As of today and for the next two weeks, Houston Texans defensive tackle Amobi Okoye is trying to establish an American Football Federation in his native country of Nigeria, in an attempt to give more people the opportunity that he received, which includes a college education from Louisville.
The campaign is called C.A.T.E, or Change Africa Through Education. Okoye has been embarking on this two week mission since 2008; the campaign centers around making Africa a better place with education and football.
Last year, Okoye introduced football to around 200 Nigerian children, and this time around he is bringing backup. Fellow Nigerians Frank Okam (Bucs) and James Ihedigbo (Jets), as well as teammate Conner Barwin are joining Okoye on the mission.
It’s heart warming to know that those who realize their good fortunes are on a mission to help others. To see more about the trip, visit Okoye’s foundation’s website.
