Houston-texans
In 2011, the Houston Texans won their first divisional title, and beat the Cincinnati Bengals in the Wild Card round, giving the franchise its first postseason win. This season Houston is favored to make another run at a division title. This article looks at two players who could ultimately improve Houston’s chances of winning, and the one player that could hinder the team’s success. Overrated QB Matt Schaub Now before you start leaving angry comments about me listing Matt Schaub as the most overrated player for the Houston Texans, let me explain my position. Yes,  Schaub led Houston to a 7-3 record last year - however, injury prevented Schaub from finishing the season and making him miss serving in the playoffs. Yes, the team made the playoffs and won a playoff game but it was accomplished with the running game and a rookie quarterback. This is not the first time that Schaub has dealt with injury, as he has missed 16 regular season games in his time with the Texans, with th...

Ben Tate’s uncertain future in Houston

During the period between the start of free agency in mid March and the NFL Draft in late April, the Texans apparently received a trade offer from the Cleveland Browns as was eventually confirmed by the Houston Chronicle’s John McClain. The deal would have apparently sent the Browns’ second first-round draft pick (22nd overall) to the Texans in exchange for Tate. Obviously the...

The Texans’ Unsung Defender

These past few weeks while putting together some snap counts for the Houston Texans, there were many thoughts that showed up while watching the films through the first five games. The team evolved every week, especially on defense, but one player made me think about his role within the defense, safety Glover Quin.  What he does for the defense, not only the secondary, shows he...

Texans vs. Dolphins: Week 2 Snap Counts

Here on the State of the Texans we are going to release the snaps counts of the Texans players on offense and defense for the next few weeks. We wanted to see the snaps that the Texans players accumulated over the season, and also give us a better insight on the personnel packages they used on offense and defense. We looked at snaps, carries, targets, hurries and anything else we...

Houston Texans Remain Out of the Headlines, in a Good Way

The period of time between the end of OTAs and the official start of training camp is yet another relatively dead period for most NFL teams and players. Some however do manage to stay in the news for all the wrong reasons. Just yesterday, CB Eric Wright of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was charged with a DUI, the latest in an offseason full of drunk driving football players. In just...

What is Ben Tate’s Future as a Houston Texan?

Back in early March, Houston Texans running back Arian Foster got the long-term contract he wanted from the organization, a five-year deal worth $43.5 million. With the Texans so committed to a guy who has become one of the league’s elite RBs, second string running back Ben Tate’s free agency clock officially began the moment Foster’s pen touch the paper. Tate is currently...

2012 NFL Season Preview: Houston Texans

The Houston Texans are coming into the 2012 season as one of the most promising and heartbreaking teams of 2011. They’re promising because they have a solid foundation that managed to win ten games in the regular season last year, as well as one playoff game. They’re heartbreaking because of all of the injuries sustained during the season. Indeed, player health was a major setback...

Morning Mail Sack

Morning Mail Sack If you had the first pick in your fantasy football league draft, who would you take? At this point, if I was picking No.1 overall, unless the league was huge like 15 teams, or an oddball league that required 2 starting quarterbacks, I'd go with Houston Texans RB Arian Foster. I don't think the difference between he and some other elite backs is huge, but...

Houston Texans: Matt Schaub Not Concerned About Contract Situation

Scheduled to make $7 million this season, Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub isn’t sweating the fact that he’s entering the final year on his contract at 31-years-old. That could be due to the fact that despite an impressive résumé, which includes a pair of 4,000-yard seasons, one in which he also led the league in passing yards and become the Pro Bowl MVP (2009), he...

Expectations For Jay Cutler, Matt Schaub, Peyton Manning in 2012

Since 2006, the Chicago Bears have featured six different starting quarterbacks.  Coming close to matching that record are the Denver Broncos with five starters lining up under center.  Meanwhile, the Houston Texans have had just four over the past six seasons leading up to their first-ever playoff victory in franchise history. The Broncos, Bears and Texans are three tough teams...

Ron Jaworski: Joe Flacco has the strongest arm in the NFL

Time to fire up the Joe Flacco debate again. We already know where Flacco’s agent stands when it comes to where Flacco ranks among NFL quarterback. And we already know where Flacco himself stands when it comes to where he ranks among NFL quarterbacks. Now we get to hear from ESPN’s Ron Jaworski on the subject. Jaworski ranks Flacco as the #9 quarterback in the league ahead of...
