After remarks that this game might have been the biggest in the franchise of the team. After Texans players saying all week they understood what the game meant in terms of how things could shape up come playoff time. Even after hearing the Patriots talk about how they were preparing all week, the Houston Texans could not find a way to get it done on Monday night against a high powered Patriots offense that seemed unstoppable most of the night. Houston Texans DE JJ Watt looking on in during the 42-14 blowout in New England on Monday night. The Texans are known for doing 2 things well on offense. Running the ball and using the run to set up their play action passing game. The Texans offense wasn’t able to do this against a Patriots offense that put points on the board on it’s 1st drive of the game. After that the Texans had to play from behind and practically abandon the run to keep pace with the Patriots offense. The Texans were hoping to slow Brady and that Patriots offense enough to be able to give the ball to RB Arian Foster and run some clock to keep Brady off the field as much as possible on Monday. Foster ended the game with only 15 carries for 46 yards and 1 TD. The Texans led the league in time of possession coming into the game and actually held the ball less than the Patriots did in the game. The Patriots looked more like the Texans than they did on offense using the play action to rip the Texans apart. The Texans were only able to gain 323 total yards in the game to the Patriots 419. Texans QB Matt Schaub may have played the worst game of the year going 19-32 for 232 with no TD’s and 1 INT. The Texans offense did have 1 bright spot on the night, as WR Andre Johnson continuing to prove he’s still one of the games elite threats outside catching 8 passes for 95 yards to lead all WR’s for the game. Even with the stats he had during this one sided win Houston Texans captain and emotional leader Andre Johnson wasn’t happy with his teams performance after the game having little to say and getting straigh to the point with reporters saying: “They just gave us a good ass whooping. That’s pretty much it.” Johnson, the 1 of the few players on the team who’s stuck it out through all the bad seasons and never complained nor left also knows it’s important to learn from losses as well saying this about bouncing back this week against a 9-4 Colts team at home: “You win some, you lose some. It happens. This is the NFL, and it’s all about how you respond.” Texans WR Andre Johnson now has 1,209 yards receiving this season. That’s good for 4th in the NFL. The Texans defense looked over matched for once again against a high powered offense much like they did against the Packers when they beat the Texans earlier in the year at home. From the first big play Brady had to WR Brandon Lloyd it almost seemed like the Texans couldn’t quite do what they had done all season long on defense, hurry the passer into making bad decisions in the pocket. Brady, who finished with a QB rating of 125.4 while going 21-35 for 296 yards and 4 TD’s did get hit a good amount in this one but the Texans defense just couldn’t get there in time last night. DE JJ Watt didn’t have a deflected pass, sack, or tackle for a loss for the 1st time in a game all season.  As a unit the defense just didn’t look sharp. After the Patriots fumbled a ball on the gaol line run by Steven Ridley and were able to recover it, the Texans defense never made a big play. JJ Watt summed it up best with his post game comments: “We played a very good football team and they executed everything very well and had a great game plan,” Watt said after the 42-14 Patriots win. “They came in and played a great game, and we didn’t play a great game, and they won. At the end of the game Watt punched a ball out of Patriots RB Danny Woodhead’s hand on a short pass play, but it was recovered in the end zone for a TD by the Patriots. “A play like that is just tough luck,” Watt said. “I came from the back side and forced a fumble and they get a touchdown out of it. Just a tough night,” said Watt. The only sack the Texans were able to get on Brady came from rookie OLB Whitney Mercilus who tied Brooks Reed’s team rookie record with hos 6th of the season. With games left against QB’s that have both never played this Texans defense he should be able to break the Reed’s record that was set last season. Houston Texans 1st rd pick OLB Whitney Mercilus getting his 6th sack of the year on QB Tom Brady. Ties OLB Brooks Reed for Texans rookie record.
