The Miami Dolphins are still alive in the race for the final playoff spot in the AFC. Before the 2012 season, starting a rookie quarterback, with a rookie head coach, did you think we’d be saying that in week 16 of the season? It’s even crazier when you think that the Dolphins could be a game or 2 better if they hadn’t let overtime games slip away to the Cardinals and Jets. The fact that the Dolphins are still on the playoff map at 6-8 comes from a deficiency in the AFC, not their solid play.

The Dolphins players don’t really want to talk about the playoffs because there are a lot of pieces that need to fall into place before they get there. A number of those pieces could fall into place this week. Before we get into how realistic the Dolphins chances of making the playoffs are, let’s look at what needs to happen for them to earn the 6th and final AFC playoff spot:
Dolphins – MUST win vs. Buffalo AND @ New England
Steelers – MUST win vs. Cincinnati AND lose vs. Cleveland
Bengals – MUST lose to Pittsburgh AND lose vs. Baltimore
Jets - MUST lose vs. San Diego OR Buffalo
You may be wondering why the Jets need to lose in order for the Dolphins to make the playoffs, right? I was surprised, considering the Jets were eliminated from the playoff race with their loss on Monday night. The Jets have to lose because they hold a tie-breaker against the Dolphins in the event that the Dolphins, Jets, and a 3rd team (Bengals/Steelers) tie with an 8-8 record. The Jets do not hold the tie-breaker over the Bengals or Steelers if they finish in a 3 way tie at 8-8, but they do hold it over the Dolphins. Thus, they are eliminated from the playoffs since the best record they can achieve is 8-8. The Dolphins, meanwhile, would hold the tiebreaker against the Bengals and Steelers, if all teams finished at 8-8. So they are still alive. Easy right? (cont’d on page 2, click below)

The Miami Dolphins had some ups -- and a few more downs -- in 2012. Rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill was along for the ride.Tannehill was a bit off and on during his first season as a professional signal-caller. Here's his passer rating in order from Week 1 to 15 (not including Week 7, when he left the game early): 39.0, 91.0, 50.2, 86.5, 92.3, 112.0, 90.9, 42.4, 46.9, 97.1...
Dolphins receiver Davone Bess has just been downgraded to out for Sunday's game against Buffalo with a back injury.Fantasy Spin:Brian Hartline, also questionable with a back problem, and Bess have both suffered from the inconsistency of a rookie quarterback. Anthony Fasano was a solid Dolphins option last week and could be again this Sunday.
Miami RB wears own jersey to go shopping.
Davone Bess has been a reliable wide receiver for the Dolphins ever since he joined the team as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2008. He literally had always been there for them before Sunday when he missed the first game of his NFL career because of a back problem. It was an experience Bess didn't enjoy and clearly doesn't want to repeat.
The Miami Dolphins announced on Monday that one of their starting tight ends has been lost for the season, due to an injury. Charles Clay will miss the final two games of the Dolphins 2012 season, but the big question is whether or not Michael Egnew will replace him. Clay caught 18 passes for 218 yards and 2 touchdowns this season, but many expected him to play a bigger role...
DAVIE, Fla. (AP) -- The Miami Dolphins could be without both starting receivers Sunday against Buffalo.
Brian Hartline and Davone Bess, who have combined for nearly half of Miami's receptions, missed practice Thursday with back injuries. Bess sat out Sunday's win over Jacksonville, and Hartline was hurt in that game.
If neither plays, quarterback Ryan Tannehill's options...
Each week we will analyze the defenses and provide our take on which RBs you should start and which should be benched based on matchups with stout run defenses, stubbed toes, potential weather problems, conduct code violations etc. Those that own Reggie Bush (vs Buffalo), Trent Richardson (vs Denver) and John Dwyer (vs Cincy) should consider their alternatives as the difficult matchups...

For the first six weeks of the season, the Seattle Seahawks run defense was among the best in the NFL.
In the eight games that have followed, the Seahawks have statistically been among the worst.
For one, the Seahawks have played some really good running backs and been hurt by big gains from Adrian Peterson, Frank Gore and Reggie Bush.
But there are some concerns...

RG3 practiced today and all indications are that the superstar will be back under center for the Redskins game against their division rival, the Eagles. If he’s in there, he’s in your lineup. Hope he doesn’t end up back on the injury report with stomach cramps after scarfing down one of the baby sized burritos.

Dolphins receiver Brian Hartline didn't practice Thursday due to a back injury. Davone Bess missed Sunday's game with a similar injury and also didn't practice Thursday.Fantasy Spin:Hartline has been living off his Week 4 performance (12-253-1) all season. He has averaged 57.6 yards with zero touchdowns in his other 13 games and will make for a risky WR3 if he plays Sunday...
