After Chicago Bears' quarterback Jay Cutler went down with a concussion against the Houston Texans on Sunday Night Football, 1st year Chicago Bear Jason Campbell will take the reins as the starter on Monday night against the stout San Francisco 49ers’ secondary. While Jason Campbell is no Jay Cutler, he isn't quite the basket case Chicago fans might think at first glance. In 2009, Campbell had the best season of his career, posting a 64.5% completion rating, while also throwing for 3,618 yards and 20 touchdowns.Campbell posted a mediocre 95 passing yards on 19 pass attempts in a loss against the number one Houston Texans. Considering the conditions that Campbell was put in, he could have done much worse. Campbell out performed fellow quarterback Jay Cutler, and arguably beat out Matt Schaub.Campbell got almost as many passing yards as a player who played a whole game, doubled his team's actual starter's total, and threw no picks, all while coming in cold off the bench in the driving rain. But how will he do against one of the top defenses in the league next week? The last time Campbell faced San Francisco was back in 2010, where he had one of the worst games of his career, going 8-21, throwing for 83 yards, and two interceptions. The downside to this is, the 49ers defense has almost tripled in talent since then.Campbell will have to use the talents of Brandon Marshall to take advantage of maybe the only weakness in the 49ers' defense, the secondary. Bears' fans, nor head coach Lovie Smith should expect an impressive game out of Campbell come Monday night, however must realize that Cutler would have the same dismal results.Campbell remains a liable starter in the national football league, and showed flashes of it in the Sunday night game against Houston, despite the score. Even though the Bears may have recently signed quarterback Josh McCown of waivers, don't let that be an indication of Campbell's status heading into his second start as a Chicago Bear.
