Hue Jackson said he was shocked by new Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie’s decision to fire him as Raiders coach Tuesday.

“You know I did everything possible to keep my job,” Jackson told Comcast SportsNet California. “McKenzie told me I am not in his plans for the future.”

McKenzie called Jackson into his office Tuesday morning and notified Jackson he was relieved of his duties.

Jackson said he asked McKenzie if he was being let go because of his coaching or his relationship with Raiders players and McKenzie refused to go deep in detail, but said it had nothing to do with rumors of a bad relationship with the players.

Jackson added that McKenzie told him he wanted to bring in his own personnel. That’s a point McKenzie, a figure in the Packers front office for the past 18 years, echoed in his introductory press conference Tuesday afternoon.

“I felt there was a need for change in the head coaching position,” McKenzie said. “We’re moving into a new era. No disrespect to Coach Jackson, but this is something I want to do — to start anew.”

After Oakland’s season-ending loss at home to the Chargers, a loss that prevented the Raiders from winning the AFC West and making their first playoff appearance in nine years, a visibly angry Jackson made much-publicized comments that indicated he was intent on a power grab in the franchise.

“I’m going to take a stronger hand in this whole team, this whole organization,” Jackson said. “There ain’t no way that I’ma feel like I feel today a year from now. I promise you that.”

Well, this is awkward.

Raiders owner Mark Davis said the decision to dismiss Jackson had nothing to with the Raiders’ 1-4 finish to the season and absence from the playoffs.

“It’s more so to move in a new direction and let Reggie put his stamp on this organization,” Davis said.

Well, there was also that whole thing with the record for most penalties in a season and also not punishing linebacker Rolando McClain after he was arrested for allegedly putting a gun to somebody’s head. Just to name a few things on Jackson’s resume. But who’s keeping track?
