SteelBlitz Steelers Blog:
When Ike Taylor went down with an ankle injury against the Ravens in week 13 the Steelers were able to still beat the Baltimore Ravens. But in that game Anquan Boldin played very well against Cortez Allen, Taylor’s back-up, and scored a touchdown. Charlie Batch’s heroics late were enough to win the game for the Steelers, but there was worry about when Taylor would return.
Two more games later and Steeler Nation may for once be ready to give Taylor his due. Ike Taylor has been the top corner for the Steelers for many years, but has never been looked at as a solid player. Fans and analysts have repeatedly shrugged off his success as part of a great defense.
In 2011 he had arguably the best season of his career, but when he struggled in the playoffs the criticism returned. His play, outside of that one playoff game, has been consistent into the 2o12 season and he is once again a part of the number one pass defense in the league.
Even so he was still not given his due. With his safeties missing multiple games with injury people were still making excuses for his quality play. When Taylor shut down AJ Green earlier this season it went heavily unnoticed. However, if Green goes off against the Steelers’ back-up corners this week maybe people will finally give Taylor the credit he deserves.
AJ Green has over 1200 yards receiving and averages over 85 yards a game, but in his match-up with Taylor he had eight yards on only one catch. It’s unlikely the Steelers will be as lucky Sunday when Green will match-up with Keenan Lewis or Cortez Allen, both of whom are battling injuries.
During the past two games without Taylor the Steelers defense has looked completely different. Sunday against the Cowboys they allowed 341 passing yards to Tony Romo, that is almost double their season average for passing yards allowed (including that game).
If Taylor is unable to return to the lineup this week the Steelers will need to have a very good game plan to shut down AJ Green. The following week against the Cleveland Browns they may be less hindered, but if they make the playoffs (and that’s a big if at this point) they will need Taylor in the lineup if they don’t want to get bounced in the first round.
Injury Update: Ike Taylor is no longer wearing a boot, but labels himself as 50/50 to play against the Browns in week 17. Keenan Lewis (hip) and Cortez Allen (groin) are both expected to play Sunday against the Bengals.

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin met the media on Tuesday for his weekly press conference to talk about the loss on Sunday to the Dallas Cowboys and the upcoming game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
During his press conference Tomlin updated the current injury status of the team heading into this week of practice. Wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders (rib) suffered a rib injury...
If Ben Roethlisberger can stand before the media and take the blame for a loss that clearly was not all on him then so can I. I can admit when I’m wrong and I owe many people an apology although I’m not going as far as some of you think.
I was tired of Bruce Arians’ offense. I was tired of bubble screens and seeing Roethlisberger on his back more than Joan Rivers awaiting another...
A lot has been made about the post-game comments made by Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger following the overtime loss to the Dallas Cowboys. In those comments Roethlisberger seemed to be unhappy with the play calling of offensive coordinator Todd Haley during the game as well as the lack of no-huddle used.
Head coach Mike Tomlin was asked on Tuesday during his...
What we know is that former Pittsburgh Steelers’ offensive coordinator and current Arizona Cardinals’ head coach Ken Whisenhunt is likely to be out of a job within the next two weeks. After a Super Bowl appearance that seems like a century ago, Whisenhunt teams have struggled especially the last couple of years. After a 4-0 start the team then lost nine straight before beating...
As expected, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Tuesday that guard Willie Colon has been put on injured reserve with a knee injury to make room for running back Rashard Mendenhall, who was reinstated by the team on Monday following his one week suspension for conduct detrimental to the team.
This marks the third season in a row that Colon has been placed on injured reserve....
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Plaxico Burress has been with the team for four games now and this past Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys he was one of the seven inactive players for the first since he was signed. Depending on how injuries shake out this week, Burress could once again find himself without a helmet in the game this Sunday at Heinz Field against the Cincinnati Bengals...
Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin believes Ben Roethlisberger's post-game comments about offensive coordinator Todd Haley were all out of frustration, and said Roethlisberger is "on board with what we're doing."
"That was a tough, hard-fought football game, an emotional one, and. when you come up short, there are frustrations associated with that...

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Heath Miller says there's still a chance for his struggling team to get it together.
Maybe, but time is running out.
The Steelers (7-7) have dropped four of five following Sunday's 27-24 overtime loss to Dallas on Sunday and need to win each of their last two games to reach the postseason for the third straight year.
Pittsburgh gave the game...
Season 3, Episode 57 of The Terrible Podcast is up and co-host David Todd and I get right into talking about the Tuesday press conference of Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin as it relates to injuries, Rashard Mendenhall, Ben Roethlisberger, Todd Haley and who might start at right tackle. This actually turns into pretty good back in forth banter.
We discuss the play of...
Per a report from Alan Robinson of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was not happy with the play calling in their loss to the Dallas Cowboys Sunday. The All Pro quarterback didn’t mince words when asked about offensive coordinator Todd Haley’s play selection. When asked why tight end Heath Miller did not see more targets late in...
Thanks to Benson for sending this over.
I may be partial to Mr. Magoo's A Christmas Carol in terms of animated yuletide specials, but Charlie Batch having anything to do with Christmas wins Christmas.
Hopefully this season turns out less depressing than the typical Charlie Brown life scenario. Video below:
Here we go.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Pittsburgh Steelers have reinstated running back Rashard Mendenhall after suspending him for missing their game against the Chargers two weeks ago.

Cowboys WR Dez Bryant told reporters following Sunday’s win over the Pittsburgh Steelers that his injured finger was feeling fine.
“The finger feels fine,” said Bryant, via ESPN Dallas. “I’m strapping up and playing New Orleans. I’m going to get that out there right now. I’m playing New Orleans. We’re just going to be careful with it throughout the week and get...
With the Patriots dropping to the third seed in the AFC, and likely staying put there, let's take a look at the most likely road to the Super bowl the Patriots will have to face. What's most important for the Patriots is who receives the sixth seed because that will be who they play in the first round. That means that this upcoming match up between the Bengals and Steelers...
