Found October 24, 2012 on Down and Distance:
There’s been a slight swing in productive running backs as we get ready for week 8 in the NFL.  There’s a few new names to look out for this week, and some usual suspects as well.  Here are my top 5 ground game beasts.   5.  Frank Gore Gore came out of last week’s game a bit dinged up with some soreness in his ribs.  There shouldn’t be any need for concern though with the extra day of rest after San Francisco’s Monday night game.  Although Arizona is being held together by their defense, they’re allowing a lot of yards on the run.  Gore should have no problems soaring over the Cardinals this week. 4.  Jamaal Charles There’s lots of things to consider when choosing Charles this week.  He hasn’t been very consistent, much like the Chiefs this year.  Charles is a hit or miss every week, but Kansas City has made a change at quarterback.  I think Charles will be getting a lot of the work load to allow Brady Quinn to adjust.  Look for Charles to have one of his better days.  3.  Willis McGahee Doug Pensinger/Getty Images Making his first appearance on my top 5, McGahee is fresh off of a bye week looking to host the Saints.  There’s only one team in the NFL that is worse at stopping the run than New Orleans.  With a dangerous quarterback that can open things up and spread the field, McGahee will get his fair share of chances to feast on this horrific run defense. 2.  Adrian Peterson  Although Tampa Bay has a solid rush defense, it’ll be put to the test against Minnesota’s driving force at running back, Adrian Peterson, coming off of a huge game.  Even with a sore ankle and a short week, Peterson is prime to find the end zone a few times. 1.  Matt Forte Matt Forte in recent pasts has been very productive against Carolina, both on the ground and through the air.  I wouldn’t feel comfortable knowing the history in sitting Forte this week.  With home field advantage and the crowd fueled from last weeks win, Forte could be Chicago’s impact player of the game.
