When you want to be considered among one of the best in the league you have to win games you’re supposed to. Now, it wasn’t always pretty but the Indianapolis Colts did just that by beating the Jacksonville Jaguars this afternoon, 37-3. Trent Richardson needs time to adjust to the Colts offense and trust his instincts (Photo credit: Michael Conroy/AP) This isn’t a recap of the game, but more of a discussion. I was happy that the Colts blew out a team they were expected to beat handily. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any concerns, especially heading into a game against the Seattle Seahawks. One concern Colts’ fans must be voicing at this point is whether Trent Richardson really is as bad as his yards per carry say he is. And I say, it’s too early to tell. I don’t expect Richardson to have a big game till at least after the bye week. Now, I am not saying that he won’t have a big game before then, but I would consider it a bonus if he did. He needs time in the offense and time with his offensive line before he can solely rely on his instincts. Give it time. Another concern, but to a much less extent than usual, was the play calling this week. The only real problem I had was when the Colts settled for a field goal inside the 10 yard line. This was due to offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton calling 3 consecutive pass plays. Richardson is a great short yardage back and Hamilton should have at least given him a chance to pound it into the end zone. But otherwise, a pretty good job calling the game by Hamilton. These are just a few thoughts I had watching this week’s game and heading into week 5 against the Seahawks. It should be a tough matchup, but one that the Colts are up for. And they have proven that to be true the past two weeks.
