The inaugural edition of NFL Magazine hit newsstands this week with a firestorm of controversy by naming Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning the MVP of the 2011 NFL season. Let’s just stop the nonsense right now, Peyton Manning is not the 2011 regular season MVP. Nothing says successful marketing like rolling out a new product and creating controversy right off the bat, in that regard, NFL Magazine was successful. Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers has to be the favorite for the post-season award with New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees not very far behind. Rodgers is playing exceptionally well this season and Drew Brees might wind up setting the single season passing yardage record at the conclusion of the regular season. Yes, Peyton Manning is a very valuable piece of the Colts team, evidenced in part by the 0-12 record Indianapolis has posted so far this season. However, would the Colts be a playoff team this season even if Manning had been healthy? This is a Colts tea...

Casserly: Manning likely a Colt

Charlie Casserly thinks Peyton Manning will likely be a Colt next year based on his progress.  If he's right then the Colts are doing a terrific job of driving up the value of the #1 overall pick: CBS Sports Charley Casserly reported on Sunday that Manning's rehab is progressing, the Colts could potentially seek an extension on the deadline for that expensive option, and...

Like a cannon ball through your suburban window, it's time to shatter some myths. I mean, you can't honestly expect me to talk about yesterday's game, can you? There's a popular refrain in some quarters these days that the Colts 0-13 start proves that Peyton Manning was the only good thing about the Colts for the last decade. Many have argued that the Colts have...

Peyton’s Place no More as Yates, Texans Clinch AFC South

In their nine-year franchise history the Houston Texans have never participated in an NFL postseason.  Whether it was the shortcomings of their teams or the fact that they play in a division that is headlined by Peyton Manning, for some reason or another the Texans continuously fell short.  Since the Texans inauguration, Manning and the Indianapolis Colts have won seven consecutive...

Colts may have 2 big-name QBs in '12

Colts fans could have the best of both worlds in 2012: Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck on the same roster. On Bill Polian's radio show Monday night, the team's vice chairman acknowledged that even if Indianapolis took a quarterback with the No. 1 draft pick, presumably Luck, the only way to turn things around next season would be with a veteran. Polian did not specifically...

NFL Week 14 Recap: Broncos-Bears

MILE HIGH MIRACLE MAN DOES IT AGAIN Peyton Manning once famously said, "You hear about how many fourth quarter comebacks that a guy has and I think it means a guy screwed up in the first three quarters." Whether Manning knew it or not, he was basically defining Tim Tebow’s 2011 season, as yet again, three quarters of mediocre football gives way to another miraculous...

This Ravens defense 'a different animal'

It was downright Peyton Manning- esque. Over the final 19 minutes of last Sunday's loss at New England, Dan Orlovsky completed all but three of his 23 passes for 271 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.

Tuesday Open Thread: What If?

Here's your open thread for Tuesday: What if the Colts had gone undefeated in 2009? Obviously it would make this season all the more ironic. But would the Packers run dampen it? The argument at the time was that going undefeated was this impossible task and a once in a generation thing. Funny thing is that there have been 7 teams in NFL history go 13-0. Five of them have done...
