On Friday morning the Indianapolis Colts made a stunning move by releasing oft-injured safety Bob Sanders.
Sanders, who will turn 30 next week, was one of the best safeties in the NFL when healthy. But that was always the problem with Sanders: health.
In seven seasons with Indianapolis, Sanders played in more than 10 games only twice, and never played a full 16-game season. He played in 47 games for the Colts, none in 2010, and made an astounding 291 tackles (218 solo). He also had six interceptions with Indy.
He was named the 2007 NFL Defensive Player of the Years, but has played in only three games in the three subsequent seasons. Sanders will always be remembered as a crucial piece to the Colts’ Super Bowl championship. He was selected in the second round (44th overall) of the 2004 NFL Draft.
