On Oct. 6, 2005, several members of the Minnesota Vikings, including Fred Smoot, Daunte Culpepper, Bryant McKinnie and Kevin Williams made a trip to Lake Minnetonka for some bye week relaxation. What initially was supposed to be a leisurely cruise around one of Minnesota’s most famous bodies of water on a party boat devolved into a night of booze-fueled, raunchy sex romp that ultimately became an embarrassing evening of debauchery infamously known as the “Love Boat Scandal.” Prostitutes allegedly were flown in from faraway places such as Atlanta and Florida and the charter boat company Al and Alma’s was forever maligned (or made notorious) by the fact the salacious pleasure cruise occurred on one of their boats, a 1994 Skipperliner. Witnesses to the tawdry festivities reported that among the sexual acts conducted on the boat allegedly included “masturbation, oral sex, anal sex, woman on man, woman-on-woman, man-on-man, toys, double penetration, middle of the floor, middle of the couches, middle of the room.” Smoot was later named as the ringleader of the entire smutty incident where crews cleaning up after the romp discovered “used condoms, K-Y Jelly, Handi Wipes, wrappers for sex toys.” Four Vikings players ultimately were charged with various misdemeanors. Now comes news that the boat forever, uh, stained, due to its inclusion in the Love Boat Scandal has had a rebirth of sorts after making its way south to Iowa. Via a Des Moines Register Report (via RandBall): Colorful Okoboji area marina operator Butch Parks has bought one of the boats at the center of a 2005 Minnesota Vikings sex scandal and will offer cruises on the family friendly Iowa Great Lakes. The fully restored boat will offer drinks, dinner, and great views, but none of the racy activities some of the Vikings were accused of while cruising on Lake Minnetonka. There were strippers and toys involved, reports indicated. Still, Parks couldn’t resist having a bit of fun when he discovered that the 1994 Skipperliner had bit of a colorful past. He thought about naming the 63-foot vessel “Love Tank” or “Mischievous” but settled on this idea from one of his staff members: “Scandalous.” … As he talked about the boat’s attributes, the seller told him about the Vikings’ alleged fun. “I didn’t know the story,” Parks said. He does now. And he plans to plant a Vikings jersey on the boat as a reminder. Fantastic. Man, if those walls could talk. On second thought, nah, we’ve probably heard more than enough.
