Velasco at Center Could Be a Game-Changer for Steelers

Fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers really don’t have a lot to be excited about heading into Monday night’s game at Cincinnati when it comes to the running game. The Steelers were about as bad as they’ve ever been on the ground and while the Titans had something to do with that, much of it was self-inflicted. Saying the loss of Maurkice Pouncey wasn’t a factor wouldn’t be fair...

The Steelers' success will be determined by the Offensive Line

For the last two seasons, the general knock on the Steelers was that their defense was perhaps too old to remain competitive.  They went on to field the number one defense in each of the last two seasons.  So much for being too old.  But big names such as Farrier, Hampton, Harrison, Foote, and Smith are now absent from that defense.  They’ll still give up some big plays...

Jarvis Jones running with the Steelers starting defense in practice

We reported on Wednesday that Steelers rookie linebacker Jarvis Jones has been listed a co-starter along with Jason Worilds. Jones told the media that he’s been running with the starting defense in practice this week. “That’s the way it is right now,” Jones said on Wednesday, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “As long as I continue to keep doing what I’m doing, I hope...

Pittsburgh Steelers Must Regain Their Monday-Night Magic

The Pittsburgh Steelers must win at Cincinnati Monday night to prevent their first 0-2 start under head coach Mike Tomlin. Pro Bowl center Maurkice Pouncey, defensive signal-caller Larry Foote and third-down back LaRod Stephens-Howling are out for the season. The Steelers haven’t shown much of a pass rush, and have no semblance of a running game. With all that working against the...

Jerricho Cotchery Shows He Is Reliable As Ever In Opening Day Loss

By Matthew Marczi Jerricho Cotchery is an offensive tool for the Pittsburgh Steelers that has gone somewhat under the radar over the past two years, at least as perceived by the fans. After all, he totaled just 33 catches for 442 yards and two touchdowns in 27 games during his two seasons in Pittsburgh. With Mike Wallace now gone, however, Cotchery is, at least for the time being...

NFL Playbook Segment Features Poor Runs By The Steelers Running Backs

One of my favorite shows to watch every week during the season is "Playbook", which can be seen every Friday night on the NFL Network. They do great job of previewing the upcoming games and you always learn something thanks to their all-22 play break downs. In their preview of the Monday night game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals, they took a...

Jarvis Jones and Chris Johnson exchange words

by Bo Marchionte PITTSBURGH - Unless you have been living under a rock since the 1970's there is a tradition in Pittsburgh, the Steelers connecting each generation of linebackers to success. The 1970's saw Jack Lambert and Jack Ham. The 1980's Mike Merriweather. In the 1990's, Greg Lloyd, Kevin Greene, and Levon Kirkland. At the turn of the century, another...

Steelers Versus Titans Sack Break Down

By Alex Kozora In weeks with multiple sacks allowed by the Pittsburgh Steelers, I’ll be breaking down each individual one, assigning blame, and keeping track of a “sack counter” for the guilty parties. And this week, with five allowed against the Tennessee Titans, was worthy of an article dedicated to it. Buckle up, this one is a bumpy ride. 1. 1st and 10, 2:06 left in the...

Le'Veon Bell Could Be Out At Least Another Month

According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Steelers rookie running back Le'Veon Bell's foot injury is now being classified as a Lisfranc injury and he could be out for at least another month.Fantasy Spin:Bell said last week he hoped to play in Week 2 against the Bengals, but it looks like he'll be out well into October.

Pittsburgh Steelers: Dwyer "They told me to get ready"

by Bo Marchionte PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Steelers finished week one with the second lowest rushing total (32) in the National Football League. Thirty four players had more rushing yards than the Pittsburgh Steelers in week one, leaving the Steelers to react. Isaac Redman fumbled twice, and had eight carries for nine yards. The Steelers third down back LaRod Stephens-How...

Steelers bracing for onslaught from LB Harrison

The Pittsburgh Steelers spent a decade watching linebacker James Harrison wreak his own unique brand of havoc on an opponent's backfield. Now the Steelers will get a chance to see how the other half lives. Harrison signed with the Cincinnati Bengals in the offseason and will face his former team on Monday night. The five-time Pro Bowler says it is just another game on the schedule...

Steelers Primer – Week 2 – at Cincinnati Bengals

Week two is upon us and after the performance we saw on Sunday, one has to be worried about this game, which will be in prime time, on Monday night. About the only good that came out of Sunday was that the rest of the division lost their games, so the Steelers are still tied for the division lead. Aside from that, a lot of the concerns I wrote about last week were proved to be genuine...
