Insider shares if Bill Belichick will coach in 2024 after Falcons snub

It seems Bill Belichick may have to wait at least a year to receive his next NFL head-coaching job after the Atlanta Falcons hired Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris on Thursday.

Per Tyler Conway of Bleacher Report, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported during Friday's edition of the "Get Up" program that the Seattle Seahawks don't "seem interested in" Belichick and that the Washington Commanders haven't "been interested in" the six-time Super Bowl champion head coach. Those are the only clubs with head-coaching vacancies heading into conference championship Sunday.

"So every sign right now points to the fact that this hiring cycle is going to come and go without the greatest coach of all time landing a job," Schefter added about Belichick.

Interestingly, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported late Thursday night that "at least one source with knowledge of the dynamics of the organization tells PFT" that Falcons owner Arthur Blank "did indeed want to hire Belichick, at least at one point over the past couple of weeks." So what changed Blank's mind?

According to Greg Dudek of NESN, New England Patriots and NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated explained during a Thursday appearance on NBC Sports Boston's "Early Edition" show that Belichick "wanted the thing set up a certain way and Blank wasn’t comfortable with that, especially for a guy who might only be around for a year or two." Belichick turns 72 years old in April.

Additionally, Dudek noted that Schefter told ESPN's "NFL Live" on Thursday that Blank embraced "a collaborative hiring effort" that resulted in "a lot of people in that building" supporting the hiring of Morris over Belichick.

Unless those running the Seahawks or Commanders change their minds, Belichick may have to spend the 2024 season doing something other than coaching.

As of late Friday morning, there was no sign that either the Buffalo Bills or Tampa Bay Buccaneers, two teams previously linked with Belichick that suffered losses last weekend, will blow things up to hire the living legend before February.
